Linksys Router - Access Denied.

This problem has been bugging me for a long time now, and i'm hoping one of you can help me. I tried this program because I can't manually forward my ports, and I don't know why. Basically, I log in to my routers IP (192.168.1.1) with no username, and password admin, which is the default for my router. I go to the Applications and Gaming tab and I set my port range to 6112-6112 using both TCP/UDP. However, when I try to Save Changes, another Username/Password box comes up, and it doesnt accept the default password. This is the result I got from this program.

As you can see, it said access was denied, and i'm guessing it's because of that secondary password. Any help would be appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I just noticed that my router is BEFSR41v3, and that router is not on your router list. If you could add it, it might help fix the problem.

first time I have seen a linksys ask for a 2nd password.

Try some of these things that have been known to help with a linksys.

Run the repair IE tool under the advanced menu. Dont worry no settings will be changed, make sure IE is closed before you do.
Next turn off silent mode under the advanced menu then remove the user name and password from the program. When you go to update the router the default pop up box will show. Linksys seems to prefer that.

And if all else fails doing a reset on the router may be needed, but lets keep that as a last resort.

Wow, that was a fast reply. I closed all IE windows and did the repair, but it still didn't work. I then tried turning off silent mode, and it showed the steps that were happening. Steps 1-4 were successful, but 5-11 all failed. I then recieved and internet explorer script error on step 12. I've already tried hard resetting the router, but it still did nothing. I've been trying to fix this problem for quite some time, I just can't figure out how, and i'm hoping someone here can help.

What firmware version do you have?

Well my router is a BEFSR41v3, i'm not sure how to check the firmware version, let alone update it, if that's what needs to be done.

np, open IE or firefox and log into your router, in the upper right will be the model and firmware version. Tell me both of those.

Also if I read your earlier post you said even when you log into the router your self and try you still get the password box? I just want to make sure its something with the router and not my program lol

Alright, it's BEFSR41 v3 with Firmware version 1.05.00.

ok you have the wrong router chosen in the program then.
you have Linksys - BEFSR41 (Linksys v2 Firmware) your firmware is v1 so choose Linksys - BEFSR41 (Linksys v1 Firmware) instead.
Still leave the user name and pass blank and silent mode off. This is why step 12 failed for you, the 2 firmwares have different name for the text boxes

Changing it to v1 firmware actually made it worse. Now instead of bringing up my routers homepage, I get "internet explorer cannot display the web page" and now step 12 fails. The username and password boxes are both blank, so it's not that.

well I have been doing some research into your problem with the double password thing, found a forum with your router and turned out to be the antivirus doing it.

You may want to give that a read

Also go ahead and try the v4 in the list. Step 12 is the last step where it clicks the save settings, so once the double password problem is solved you should be good to go.

What antivirus do you have installed?

Hm...well in that post he was using Kaspersky, and in my case, i'm using Norton Antivirus (Which is a real pain) but I will try disabling the web security for a minute and see if it lets me in. I'll edit post when I'm done.

Omg! it was my stupid antivirus! I've always disliked Norton, and now I have even more of a reason to dislike it, thank you soooo much! You have no idea how much trouble i've gone through trying to fix this darn thing!

ok let me know, and yes step 12 is going to fail till that double password problem with the router is taken care of. And by the way, I hate norton LOL
if you want a free anti virus I use Avira www.free-av.com and I am also a fan of avast, free for home users www.avast.com.

on http://www.av-comparatives.org avira gets a little better ratings than avast.
