ports needed for battlefield 1934
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:34:42 AM »
My friend and I play 1934 on the PS3.
If we sit at the lobby we can chat but about 5 min into a game our mikes get disconnected.
Would be great if we could actually communicate like a squad.
Thought opening up the games ports would help.
Thanks.
Need to know where the line is so it can be crossed.

I assume that you and your friends are all playing at different houses.  If that is correct, do you know if your friends are still able to communicate with each other after you loose communication?

If they can then we know something is wrong on your side.  If no one can communicate then it is either the server for the game (most likely) or you and all your friends have all setup the same thing wrong.

We are playing from different houses, different citys to be exact.
Not sure if my friend can hear others after coms are lost have to ask him.
Still would like the ports. He is nat 3, can't change it he's tried. I am on nat 2.  Was thinking get the ports and we both open them up and see what happens.
Thanks for the re Evan

Have you been able to ask your friends if they can still communicate?  I'm not sure about the ports you need, but I will look into it.

Sorry that it took a couple of days to get back to you...we just launched new forums and it took me a little bit to get back to things.

Hello :-)

So you cant hear him but he can hear you? Lets double check the port forwarding :-) Cause it sounds like the connection to him is going but the connection to you isnt.
So first thing to check, has the IP changed on your PS3? if so make sure the port forwarding rules are pointing to the IP of the PS3.

Also so we can make sure port forwarding is working make sure to forward 1 port to your computer and test that it works. This way we can make sure port forwarding is working right with the router and everything :-)

We can hear each other for a very shot time 3 min max i'd say. then he hears me but i can't hear him.

has the IP changed on your PS3?

Yes it has cahanged.
Is there a way to stop the IP from changing.

forward 1 port to your computer and test that it works. This way we can make sure port forwarding is working right with the router and everything :-)

How do I do this?

Thanks Shane for responding.

ok if your IP has changed in the PS3 then you need to make it static so it doesnt change. I dont own a ps3 but it should be like anything else. Instead of it getting its IP from DHCP you just give it the information it needs. so in this case lets say your linksys is 192.168.1.1
for your ps3 you would put
IP: 192.168.1.250 (I choose 250 so that way DHCP will never reach that high and try to give it out)
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 192.168.1.1
dns server: 192.168.1.1

then in the port forwarding rules have them all point to 192.168.1.250.

Now to test on your computer download my simple port forwarding program. Have it forward say port 1979 then just follow the check list and see if it passes.

if you enable dmz then you wont be able to do port forwarding for any other system. I would leave it off for now :-)
