Bell 2wire issue
« on: July 03, 2009, 09:07:01 AM »
Hi there,

One friend of mine have bought a 2wire router modem with Bell and now we rent a appartment and subscribe with Radioactif. I did all the right setting with my Radioactif login an password and all the connexion test was good. But the thing is when I open my browser, a Sympatico Bell page appear asking me to put my Bell login and password. How can I get read of that ? I have checked everything in the 2wire setting but did not find anything. The funny thing is I can open my msn and tchat but I cannot go on any internet page.
It will be very king of you to help me because I have to go every day to the internet café to check my email.

Thanks

by the way, I have Windows XP

That is what is known as DNS

That is what is known as DNS hijacking, but not for a bad purpose :-)
Most ISP's well direct you to there login page if your modem isn't on their network correctly.

For example, I buy a new cable modem at the store, come home hook it up, it connects fine. But since the modem isn't registered with the cable company a "Register Your Modem" page will come up.

Now web pages are on port 80 while your chat is not, this is why your chat is working.
You need to call your ISP and ask why they are still asking for information when you try to use the net.

Another option, not sure how it would work with this, is to not use the DNS servers of BELL but try opendns.org instead.
