instead of wep do wpa, this
« Reply #15 on: July 17, 2009, 08:54:56 PM »
instead of wep do wpa, this will let you make a easier password. also go ahead and change the SSID name as well. Reason why is windows sometimes corrupts the stored password or has a wrong setting for a network, so instead of making go through a BUNCH of crap its easier just to change the wireless network name and have windows start new with it :-)

let me know after all that is done if she finally gets a normal IP.

With xp and wireless if you dont enter the right password or something is off windows will still connect but it wont get an IP.
So this is what I am trying to help you fix.

I went and did the WEP(before this last e-mail) ,then entered one of the 4 KEY numbers, on her laptop;but, that didn't do it. I'll go back and do as you have instruced. BY the way...I must of deleted "PeerGuardian2', and there's no sign of "Hide my PC"--either..I checked. They really slow things ...down... greatly.

Shane,
O.K. I changed the WEP, to WPA2 Personnal. I put in a shared key name. I also put in a SSID name, which ALL has been accepted. Now what should I do?  Just curious..

Shane,
It stated that it's there;but, there's "little or NO connectivity".

very odd, you have it
« Reply #20 on: July 17, 2009, 09:49:13 PM »
very odd, you have it connecting to the new network name with the new password, it connects but still gets no ip address?

looks like others have had this problem.
http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Adapters&thread.id=21858

lets try something, turn off security for the wireless, just for now. once it is turned off have the computers disconnect from the wireless than reboot. once back up have them connect to the wireless.

See if that works.

Shane,
Why do my Connection Details NOT reflect the fact that DHCP is actually "Enabled";which, it states it is not. IF--that can be fixed--some how, wouldn't this cause the other systems to respond? When I put in at the top of my I.E.8's search: "192.168.1.1,I can log-on to my router.  BUT, my own IPv4 Address(In My Connection Details) is : 192.168.212. MY IPv4 Subnet Mask is: 255.255.255.0. My IPv4Default Gateway is: 192.168.1.1.
 My IPv4 Servers are :93.188.166.105, and 93.188.161.105 .
Now, what I don't understand is---why, does my setting for DHCP(ON my desktop--upon search) say that it is NOT enabled;when, I know in my settings(on the Web) for my Linksys router---that is is enabled?!?
I'll give the other things you want to try--a shot;but, turning off "security" doesn't sound too good.

dchp enabled on the computer
« Reply #22 on: July 18, 2009, 06:24:52 AM »
dchp enabled on the computer means you want windows to automatically get an ip from the dhcp server (in this case the dhcp server is the linksys box)

If you set your ip to static you are telling windows what ip info to use and to not get the info from the dhcp server (the linksys box)

This i also why it is important that dhcp server is enabled in the linksys.

Shane,
So, with the information I sent late last night, what do think is the best way to "fix" it so they(my wife and step-son).. can get re-connected to the Web? The removing of the security on Linksys's web page(plus) making sure that my wifes system didn't have any interface/connection with her system connect(at boot-up,then turning it back on)--didn't work--as, I recall that was suggusted. Are my settings that I gave you causing the problem? And, when, I inputed my settigs;except where I specified her ip address that was comming up ,it showed she was connected;but, she couldn't get on the web last night.
Sorry for this problem;but, I just don't know the best solution here.
                                                                    Joe
P.S.: So, your saying I've got my internal settinsg for the Web set to "static"? If so how do I fix(remove) that?
