Linksys Router Question
« on: June 26, 2009, 06:39:58 AM »
I've tried to set up port forwarding with my linksys router and keep running into the following issue. I go to the router setup via browser. Then I go to the applications & gaming tab. I setup my ports click enable and then save the settings. Now I'm assuming that after putting all that in it's not supposed to just disappear after I've saved the settings. If that's the case I have other issues and will be coming back for more help. If it's not supposed to do that any suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

Port Forwarding...
« Reply #3 on: July 17, 2009, 04:56:11 PM »
I just ran that program to "Port Trigger Initiator",which installed, and is running with no problems. I'm able to get on line and use the Web; but,the two other computers that were able to get on-line--now can't. My IP was changed during this process. The "Simple Port Forwarding" seems to work fine;but, had a heck of a time locating a port or ports that wouldn't fail upon testing;but, I seem to be O.K. What do I need to do to free-up the other two computers at my house(two laptops). Nothing I've done with the settings for my router (Linksys WRT 54 GS) have done any good so far, so that they can get back on line.
Please e-mail back as soon as someone here, has a way I can fix this.
                                   Sincerely,
                                               Joe

« Reply #4 on: July 17, 2009, 05:12:08 PM »
Im not sure why the other 2 computers are off line. Port forwarding and such shouldnt have anything to do with bumping them off the net.

Lets check a few settings. can you check and confirm they are getting IP address from the router? this is the most important step.

Let me know

Her I.P. is: 169.254.114.154. The Gateway has the exact same numbers.
The Subnet is: 255.255.0.0 . I coouldn't locate the DNS IP's.Not sure if I was looking at what exactly that should be or where(exactly) it should post on this screen. Sorry.

« Reply #8 on: July 17, 2009, 07:28:31 PM »
ok what is happening is she isn't getting an ip address from the router, that's why she isnt online.

do you have the network icon by your clock? does it have a red x on it? if it does that means the network cable is unplugged.

Next after that I will have you log into the linksys and make sure the dchp on the linksys is enabled so it hands out the IP addresses.

Shane,
Yes, the network icon is there. No there isn't a red X on it. But, it shows here(on my system) that that(DHCP) wasn't enabled;but, on Linksys' web site. IT is?!

take a screenshot of the first page of your linksys when you log into it.

Have you also rebooted your wifes computer? and the network cable from your wifes computer does it plug in from her computer right into the linksys or does it plug into something else?

ah! wireless then. here is what I have seen happen before. DO this, log into your router, go to the wireless tab, go to security. give it a new password. go to the other 2 computers and tell them to disconnect from the wireless, wait a few sec then have them connect again and when it asks for the password put in the new one.

Shane,
O.K., I went in and had to "enable" WEP(IT had been enabled before..strange, it wasn't...) which I did. Created a PassPhrase. enabled. And wrote down 4 KEY enteries 1-4. Which were presented to me upon, doing as I said I did.
And, to let you know---I have prior to this occurance(a little while ago..) installed "PeerGuardian2". I tryed to install "Hide my IP";but, without success--they want money..now..
