If you're on Vista make sure
« Reply #1 on: May 20, 2009, 07:19:52 AM »
If you're on Vista make sure you run the program as Admin.  Also make sure you have the newest version.  You could also try turning off UAC if you're on Vista.

I had the same problem a while back, but I know it was an older version and I have since turned off UAC.  You might just want to try uninstalling it and redownloading, just to make sure you have a a clean version.

Try turning off any firewalls if present then and make sure you're running the newest version.

The first thing spf does when
« Reply #4 on: May 20, 2009, 09:11:57 AM »
The first thing spf does when you see the splash screen is connect to the site and look at the version ini file. Its checking to see if there is a new program update.

after that it moves on to open the main window and close the splash screen.

we can see if that's what it is, go to the settings.ini file and look for

checkforupdates=1
change it to
checkforupdates=0

save it and open the program again. And of course make sure you have the latest version 2.4.5 at the time of this posting.

Let me know how it goes.

« Reply #6 on: May 20, 2009, 11:49:00 AM »
Have you tried the Portable version that can be downloaded here?

Give that a try...and if you have another computer that you can trasport that to then you can try it there or any other computer for that matter.

hhmm well the program also
« Reply #8 on: May 20, 2009, 03:06:19 PM »
hhmm well the program also uses microsoft MDAC & DAO to read the database file.

The last thing the program does before the main window is shown is try to open the databases.

In my help file I have a how to on reinstalling MDAC. also You said XP, what service pack does it have on? 1, 2 or 3?

To my knowledge of Simple Port Forwarding that shouldn't make a difference.  You should upgrade to the newest service pack regardless though.

installing service pack 3
« Reply #11 on: May 21, 2009, 08:31:00 AM »
installing service pack 3 will also update the MDAC and replace any corrupt system files. Service pack 3 is a good idea.

Glad we could help.  You might want to run a few malware checks on your computer since you just updated it.

If you need any other help in general or with a specific PcWinTech program just make a post.
