Need help with troubleshooting port forwarding 2wire 3800HGV-b
« on: January 19, 2012, 06:04:19 PM »
Alright so im somewhat new to this forum and i have read a few other cases where someone had a problem with the ports not opening even though the procedure was done correctly. I followed the procedure to add exception to the firewall and turned off norton 360 fire wall and also repaired windows fire wall with your tool while adding the port to exceptions inside of it. I have a static IP which is 192.168.1.69 and would really appreciate the help if you can spare the time. P.S everything ive tryed has not worked i even hard reset my router twice made new named port exceptions in the 2wire firewall and am forwarding the ports to the correct machine. Any help would be appreciated if it help im trying to port forward ports 28000 (Blockland) and port 19970 (microtorrent/utorrent).

Can you post the top of the port forwarding page as well? I need to see the devices it lists

I notice in the rule you don't have 7777 or 7778 so you will need to add those.

Also setup a test port forwarding rule to the mom-pc and then run my port tester on it. I want to see if it is the router or your system that is blocking the ports

port 9999 was the test i forwarded to the computer like you asked and i also added ports 19970 for utorrent to the mycomputer device and added 7777 and 7778 UDP and TCP. I then ran the port tester and all the tests failed.

Ok so far it looks like it might be something with the router.

First lets make sure your ISP doesn't have you behind another network on their end.

Find the WAN/Internet IP in the 2wire. Does it match the IP on this page?

That matches the IP showing up with your post. SO your fine there.

So far I cant find a reason for them not working.

Only 2 things left, 1 your ISP is blocking ports (Doesn't happen to often but does happen)
or 2. Firewall software ob both computers is blocking my port tester.

What firewall software do you have installed?

This computer is only a month old but it is running Norton 360 Premier edition. The other computer that is physically wired to the router is running Macafee but i dont see how that could effect this one.

Both systems have an antivirus with built in firewall.

Try disabling the firewall and run the port tester again

I turned off Macafee on the other computer and then disabled nortons smart firewall and ran the checker again. Sadly the port checker still says failed for every one.

You have the rules setup correctly, you disabled the firewall and you tried 2 systems.

Right now everything is pointing to the router as having a problem.

Lets try one more thing. Power cycle the router. Unplug the power, wait 10 sec plug it back in. Wait till your online again and try the port tester one more time

I assumed power cycle meant hold down the button (the only button) on the front of it for a few sec so i held it for 30 then booted it back up after 10 sec and turned off my firewall and started up the port scanner, still nothing but i did notice something not sure if it helps but it said some ports were offline and couldn't be reached as apposed to saying data has been sent to them.
