I can't port forward. (My router is a 2wire 3800hgv-b)
« on: December 22, 2011, 12:10:07 PM »
I am trying to host a minecraft server on my computer, and I can not port forward it through my router. I have looked up multiple tutorials and I think I have found out the problem, in all the tutorials when they have to select a computer to host it from, they select their computer. But my computer will not show up on the list.

My computers local IP is 75.39.18.4 but it used to change daily. (I used to be able to port forward but my router broke so I had to buy a new one.) Now that I have this new one the IP doesn't seem to be changing.

Thats your internet IP. Your computer should have a local IP starting with 192.168 normally

Oh... I thought that was my internal IP or something. 192.168.5.102. (This one switches every couple of days between 102,103, and 104)

Which is fine as well. The 2wire supports setting the port forwarding by computer name instead of IP.

You should be able to set the port forwarding by IP address as well.

But if your computer name isnt showing up then we need to see if your computer is set to use a static IP or auto. We want it on auto for the 2wire

How would I be able to set if it uses static IP or auto?

What version of windows are you on and I can post instructions on how to disable a static IP.

Also open a cmd window and type in ipconfig

Post a screen shot showing the local IP of your system
