PK5000z Port forwarding
« on: December 21, 2011, 12:48:59 AM »
So here's the issue; I've port forwarded many times with other routers, recently switched ISPs and thought "oh, well I need to re port-forward." "piece of cake"

bloody lie.

Anywho, long story-short, I've been through your list of common problems, even downloaded your tool. According to your tool, my 25555 TCP port is open, but not UDP. I've set up both TCP and UDP to forward in the same way, to the same Local IP, so I have no idea what is going on here.

When TCP passes but UDP fails it is almost always your firewall software blocking UDP.

What Antivirus/Firewall do you have installed?

I primarily use windows firewall, to which I've added the port to the exceptions list. I've turned off my other antivirus softwares for now untill I can get this settled.

Some AV's have firewalls in them. What AV do you have installed?

Can you post a screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router?

Check the firewall page in the router as well. I wonder if it has a UDP flood block that might be getting in the way

well the firewall settings on the router shows security level as "off" So I doubt it's that.

Something is blocking UDP. But is it your system or the router?

Best way to test is with a 2nd computer

If you have a 2nd system setup a port forwarding rule TCP & UDP to it then test it and see the results.

If UDP passes then we know the problem is on your system. If it also fails then we know it is the router or ISP

Its probably not his machine I am having trouble too with trying to port forward on the same modem/router since they are both in one. I recently switched too and this is the trouble I am having too after doing one extra step you told to someone else to try it opens on the port but it still wont allow traffic to come through my main IP. I would like to say that opening the DMZ hosting helped to allow the ports to test positive, but it still wont let people through just like the same problem he is having.

It is a zyxel based router and I have helped many on here where zyxel blocked UDP and wouldn't let Xbox play correctly.

Does sound to be a problem with this router

Out of all the people I help Zyxel and Thomson routers seem to give the most trouble.

I have qwest where I live. Perhaps ask them from one of their actiontec modems. Had good luck with those.

Sorry for the late reply, I've tested it on my roomate's computer, and it can be concluded that it is something with my computer blocking the connection.

what's my next move?

OK since UDP is working to the other computer and not yours then we need to find out what on your system is blocking it.

Is it possible you have any other firewall software installed?

Are you using avast free or pro?

I'm using avast free, I don't think I have any other firewall installed. I saw a firewall checker in your toolbox, I think I'll check that out and get back to you.

edit: Using your firewall detector, yeilded no results until I checked "Show Microsoft Devices", which I'm assuming means that windows firewall is the only one running.

here's the log your program created.
