SpeedStream 4300-Series Port Forwarding Won't Work!
« on: December 02, 2011, 08:24:36 PM »
Hello. I have asked help here before when I was behind 2 routers on my DSL connection but I had no success. Now I am trying with just 1 router and no luck still. The game I want to host for is Halo and the ports required to host a server are 80 TCP, 2302 UDP, 2303 UDP.

The router model is SpeedStream 4300-Series. I am plugged directly into my modem which is connected to the DSL line into my wall.

I have setup a static IP with these settings in Windows 7:

Ipconfig:

Ports forwarded:

Results from Simple Port Tester:

When I run Simple Port Tester, it says they are open but when I use any other online port tester, they say port 80 is open, but 2302 and 2303 are closed.

I started a server in Halo and no one can join it and I think some people can't even see the server in the server list. Any suggestions?

If my port tester says the ports are open then they are

Something has to accept the connection or the test will fail no matter what. My port tester opens the port and listens for the connection. When you use the online testers nothing is accepting the connection, so they fail.

So port forwarding isnt your problem. Make sure your firewall software is letting the game through. When you have people connect to you make sure you give them your internet IP and not your local IP

I have double checked to make sure Windows 7 Firewall has Halo on it's exception list. I have no other firewalls / anti-anything software running other than Windows stuff. Freshly installed OS. The router firewall settings says it is turned off also. As far as the game goes, it is created with the correct IP and port. I have double checked and it is not using local IP. There are separate options for setting up LAN or Internet games. I have hosted games before on previous ISP's with no problem and I am a hobbyist programmer so I am pretty computer savvy, I just am amateur with networking! :( Here's some snapshots:

There really is nothing else I can try?

Perhaps it needs more ports open?

Try this. DMZ is a open all ports rule. IN the router enable DMZ and point it to your computers local IP.

After that use my port tester and any port you test should say successful.

Then try the game. If it works then you know you might need more ports open

Thanks for the advice. I will give it a try tonight. Also I think I can change the ports the server will run on so I will try that also. Check this out:

Network ports that are required to play Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2 for Windows Vista as multiplayer games

Port 3074 is the default port used by LIVE for multiplayer gaming

Let me know how it goes
