Port Forwarding - Actiontec PK5000 - Windows Home Server 2011
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:07:11 PM »
I'm at my wits end.  I just don't don't know what more to do.  I've followed all instuctions that I have can find regarding port forwarding on my Actiontec PK5000 for Windows Home Server 2011, but can't seem to get it to work.  I'm beginning to think that there is something wrong with my hardware, but I just don't know.  The WHS automated port forwarding doesn't seem to work.

After attempting to port forward on my own for quite some time, I've downloaded you PortForwarding application and belive that I have everything setup, correctly.  However, when I test my ports (via your application), starting with Port 80, the test just goes back and forth, "Checking Port 80" and never comes out of this.  I've tried turning my Firewall on & off.  Doesn't seem to matter.  My DMZ is disabled.  My UPnp is enabled.  Seems like I've tried every combo.  Not sure what else to do.

Any help is greatly appeciated!!!

Windows server IE security settings are maxed out. And since they are my program isnt allowed to click the check now button on the port tester page!

You can either click it for it when it is waiting, or reset IE security to medium.

Also post a screen shot of your port forwarding page in the router.

Another thing to check is the WAN/Internet IP in the router. Does it match the IP on this page?

My Internet Settings was locked (grayed out) on High, but I was able to figure out how to drop that to Medium-High.  Maybe a step closer.  I was able to run your Port Test tool and at least 4125 was successfully forwarded.

The program says failed on the other 2 because something else was using the port.

If the last port worked the others most likely do as well

You could close what ever program is using those ports and do the port tester again to be sure.

80 and 443 are normally something hosting a website. Do you have IIS or some server running?

Heading out with the kids to get a Christmas tree, yes I know its early, but who cares kids are excited lol

I will respond when I get back

Oh it is IIS, I connected to your IP and got.

"Remote Web Access is turned off
To turn on Remote Web Access, you need to have a client computer with Windows Server Connector installed, and then start the Dashboard to enable Remote Web Access.
How do I turn on Remote Web Access?"

Point is, those ports work since I connected to you. So your set

UpnP is working because you can see another device has added some rules.

Port forwarding does work however. So looks like you will have to port forward all the ports you need for the Windows server.

I could never get WHS to "properly" setup my router, so I chose to Skip Router Setup thinking I may have just manually done it myself.  I was then able to "Remote Web Access" from my WHS Launchpad.  I thought I was home free & so I setup a DNS name.

However, I could access the DNS Name.  I went back and tried to "Remote Web Access" and that fails as IE Explorer now states "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

When I attempt to "Turn On Remote Access", that fails and states that "Port Forwarding is not configured correctly on the router".

I am inches away from giving up, entirely...<arg>

Remote desktop is port 3389. Did you forward that port?

However, that port now fails, too.  I have no idea why or how to fix this:(

I just sense that I am close to getting this working, though:)
