Try setting up the port forwarding to your system instead and then run my port tester.

http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester

This way you can see what ports are working and which ones are not.

thanks, good suggestion... I run it, and now I'm more confused than ever. Tested ports 21, 80 and 8080, all forwarded to the laptop running the port tester - and they all passed! How do you explain this???

I'm still not able to connect to the ftp server from my desire hd, after forwarding port 21 back to the nas/ftp server.

So if port forwarding is working then perhaps the problem is the NAS?

Try putting the NAS ip i n the DMZ (Which is a open all ports rule)

Perhaps it needs more ports open?

NAS in DMZ did not help. This would not explain why I can't ping the modem either, right? And why I can't connect to the IP camera?

I've set up an ftp account for you; would that do any good, testing from your side? I'll pm the details if you think that could be useful

Can you post all the static Ip info on the devices?

I am sure you have it correct but I want to cover all the bases. Such as if the gateway or DNS is wrong it will work locally but not online.

Not sure, I logged into the ftp and had to folders, volume 1 and 2.

Port forwarding is working, so not sure that is the problem now

this is crazy, it seems the problem is in the HDH or its SIM. I've tried with another android phone now, and other sim, and it connects both to the camera and to ftp.

the hdh is on the same operator as the home modem (telenor). gonna switch sims next; that will be tomorrow though

Shane
yup, its the sim (or rather, the ISP).

configuration 1 (original config):
HDH+telenor sim (MCC MNC: 240 08); APN services.telenor.se
   - Attached to telenor network : no access to ftp, camera or ping via WAN port of modem/router
   - Connected to the router directly via WLAN: both ftp and camera accessible
Ideos X5+tele2 sim (MCC MNC: 240 07)
   - Attached to tele2 network: both ftp and camera accessible
   - Connected to the router directly via WLAN: both ftp and camera accessible

configuration 2 (switch sims between phones):
HDH+tele2 sim
   - Attached to tele2 network: both ftp and camera accessible
   - Connected to the router directly via WLAN: both ftp and camera accessible
Ideos X5+telenor sim; APN services.telenor.se
   - Attached to telenor network : no access to ftp, camera or ping via WAN port of modem/router
   - Connected to the router directly via WLAN: both ftp and camera accessible

Again, the modem/router is also connected to the internet via an telenor sim. The router  APN is internet.telenor.se. Changing the phone APN to use the same APN as the router did not result in any observed difference.

My present conclusion is that telenor has some issues to route traffic internally; does that make sense? Any other suggestions or ideas? I think it's time for more support hours with telenor, but it sucks since the people you get in touch with after one hour of waiting does not know what they are talking about. Worse still, I don't think they know that they don't know.

Most support techs are just normal people earning a living and reading out of a manual. If you want real support for this you need to ask for someone higher up the tech support food chain.

Given what we have found out working together no normal support tech is going to have a clue

Just to close this thread. The operator has now confirmed that they cannot fix this problem. Their solution is for me to pay a monthly fee to get a static or public IP address.

I would possibly buy their reasoning if it weren't for the fact that I have NO PROBLEMS at all when using a phone with a SIM other than Telenor's. So I've informed them that instead of increasing their business, in this case their network strategy will decrease their business (I'm dropping my subscriptions with them).

Thanks again for your support.
