Simple Port Forwarding Opens and Freezes
« on: September 21, 2011, 01:09:20 PM »
Followed by a runtime error 7 "out of memory". I'm running windows 7 and Internet Explorer. When I try to run the programme it opens and freezes. Just the grey backdrop design, with no controls. When I click in the window, I get the runtime error. Any idea what could cause this?

First time I have heard of this error.

Lets see if we can find the problem :-)

First thing to try is loading it without it drawing the transparent background.

In the start menu under the simple port forwarding menu is "SPF - Basic UI Mode"

See if that works any better for you :-)

If not we will keep looking.

Sorry, I should have said earlier. I already tried the basic UI mode, after reading in the forums a bit. Basic UI tries to open and crashes, while it's trying to load. No warning, no error message.

P.S. I'm using a Compex MRL21E modem. It has a built in router.

OK try deleting the spf.exe.manifest file and then open the program.

The program relies on a lot of system files. I will need to check and make sure they are good as well

Component 'Unibox10.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

That's what I got when I deleted that file and tried to open the programme

That might explain the error your getting. I use those ocx controls to make the unicode text boxes for the other languages.

In the ocx in the same folder as the program? It should be. We may just need to register it on the system.

Try copying it and put it in the system32 folder.

Also the program is made in VB6 try installing this as well :-)

"Try copying it and put it in the system32 folder." I did this and it produced the same error:

Component 'Unibox10.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid.

I downloaded and installed Vb6 but I'm not sure if it installed correctly. So I installed it using recommended settings and it seemed to do it, but I've no idea where it's gone now, or what it does.

Same error message if I try it in basic UI Mode

Sorry, was I supposed to have Visual Basic already installed before I downloaded this service pack, or is it a stand alone thing?

It just install the runtimes, your fine :-)

Go ahead and put the spf.exe.manifest file back from the recycle bin and try to run the program again :-)

Runtime error 7 . Same result.  :blank:

Sorry for the shortness. I do appreciate the free software, and tech support immensly. I just been up all night trying to forward my ports manually, only to discover that I can't seem to manage it without help, no matter how smart I thought I was.

What router are you trying to port forward on?

Also have you looked over
http://www.pcwintech.com/common-problems-fixes-port-forwarding

and

http://www.pcwintech.com/how-setup-two-or-more-routers-together-port-forwarding-port-triggering

I think the error has to do with the custom controls I use and something missing or not registered right on your system.

I can't believe you have four kids and do this in you spare time by the way. You're awesome.

Um... I'm not sure what you mean by "which router". Other than the model of my modem, I don't really know.

I did read your article about common port forwarding problems, and I've re-read it now. The trouble is, there's very little information on the web about how to forward your ports in Windows Seven. I wouldn't know where to enter my IP address. I'm only using the one router as far as I know. One computer, one user, one modem. Wouldn't that mean one router as well?

Thanks for taking the time to explain.

If your not behind a router then you have no need to port ofrward.

This will explain why.

Lets find out. Open a command window and put in ipconfig
Tell me the first 6 numbers of the IP address

I enjoy what I do, and I work as hard as I do because of my wife & 4 kids :-D

The reason I began to think I needed to forward my ports, was because I got this message when I tested them in Soulseek.

IP: such and such Port: 31017/tcp CLOSED. Your router and/or Soulseek client needs to be configured correctly.

P.S. I suspect I am still behind a router, because my modem says it's a router as well. It's a Modem/Router.
