The problem is the DDNS Client not updating the IP.

If you know your current internet IP then use it instead of the DDNS name until you can all the DVR company and ask them why it isnt updating.

Okay.. another discovery that might be of importance.  On the website where I sign into the DDNS client  it HAS the correct updated address... but where the client is in my software tray always "on" when I am on my computer...when I click on that .. that reflects the old address..so hence it looks like it is updating in one way but not reflecting it in the other??? Weird.

So I logged into my Westell router and see I have a page for DDNS hosting in the router and wonder if I am supposed to put my DDNS client info there and enable it?

I am going to send you a screen shot.. (if thats okay?) since it asks for my domain name.. which I presume is the domain name I created but it confuses me when it asks for a "key name" and then a security key?    Would they be talking about my email address that I set up with and my password when I created the DDNS domain account?

And you will notice on the secon attachment for the DNS server info.. at the bottom host names it says ADD DNS Entry.. should I put my DDNS client info there and do I used the DNS client service provider or MY DDNS client name I created on their site.

Thanks for your time...

It could be your system not updating the DNS for the name since it is in cache, try this.

Open a command window and put in
ipconifg /flushdns

Then try it again and see if it has the new IP

I did that and it indicated it "flushed" the dns.  In the system tray the page still reflects the old IP address but on their "site" where I sign into the account it reflects the new address?  Any way I can send you snapshots of those two and/or would it make a diff?  But, I dont' think the cam takes pics of pop up windows does it.. since that is what they are?

Also, I tried to contact Qsee the folks I bought the dam/dvr system from but no one on live chat... left a message (did so a week ago.. still no response) and waiting on hold is fruitess..they have nice products but their support leaves alot to be desired.. just don't know if it's cause they are so big they don't have enough personal to cover everything they need.

Did you get my inquiry about putting the DNS info in the router homepage?

Thanks

I am not sure about the DDNS in the router. You need to have it setup the way they tell you for Qsee.

Email me your DDNS name and let me see what it does for me :-)

Okay...Shane.. this is what the Qsee tech told me.  I cannot use the DDNS client on my laptop remotely to access my DVR and cameras.. that is is only for using it locally on my system... I still don't get that?.. he says trying to connect with my cell phone is causing the conflict with it since it is recognizing my cell phone IP address instead of the host computer address????? That make any sense to you?.

When I try to access the computer with my cell phone and the DDNS client changes the IP address to be the cell phone IP address and I can't get on.

He says in order to access my system remotely.. I need to take the ddns client sofrware off the computer I am currently using to get on the system with and then hook up my cell phone and type my ddns client name in the address block and voila I can get on.. since if I don't remove the software and trying to get on remotely through another provider (i.e. wireless or hotspot) I will have the same problem I have now i.e. IP address confllict with the cell phone (tether).

He even used my ddns client name and accessed it from where he is in CA and scoped out my cameras... go figure.

It is still kind of confusing to me.. but I got out an old compag  (it does not have the DDNS client software installed) and got on with my cellphone and typed the ddns client name in the address block and voila I got on and viewed the cameras remotely.

So, hopefully keeping the DDNS client in place will keep the changes with the  IP address and server seamless so I can still access no matter what... does this make sense to you?  And I guess the DDNS client makes it so even if the server changes the IP address the client makes it so I can still access not matter what.. sound write?  I know you know and understand how a DDNS client works better than I as I am still learning this stuff.

I still dont understand why the conflict with the DDNS software and the cell phone.. especiallly when I had it operating for a couple of weeks now.. but since the ports are open and it works.. I guess I will be happy with that.. til for some reason it doesn't work anymore! LOL

Sorry for the headache.. don't know if we both learned something here or not.. you'll have to let me know you're thoughts..whether he really educated me or what?! LOL  I would be curious as to what you make of it?

thanks again

That explains the strange IP your ddns had.

The DDNS client needs to run on a computer at your home and not on the laptop your traveling with. The DDNS client software checks for what internet IP the system it is on currently has. Since the client software is on your laptop and your not home its updating the DDNS with the IP your currently on.

You need to have it running on a computer at your house that doesn't go anywhere. Then when your home IP changes the DDNS client will update the DDNS name and your all set
