Port-Forwarding problems Thomson 536v6 & Dir-600
« on: September 07, 2011, 01:40:57 PM »
I want to do a quick query regarding both of these routers since I haven't found anything related to neither in a single thread and Port-Forwarding, but before proceeding I want to detail, not far from when I bought the Dir-600 around a month from today and for the first time dealing with a wireless router, which before it I got a TS 536v6 from Verizon which has been running for 3 to almost 4 years so far and everything seems to work fine with it. The Dir-600 seemed to Port-Forward properly the first time I set'd both through when fallowing tutorial like http://goo.gl/3bC7A, getting me the Green-check sign Utorrent light up bottom right corner when things are working through.

Now an issue arose with the Dir-600 after realizing it was giving problem every-time I hard shut'd it down when the supply went off,  booting both (TS, Dir) later then to receive the window internet icon of "Internet Connected but no Internet Access" which seemed to be resolved by factory resetting the Dir-600 several time,  getting internet access but losing my settings, now I figured I can nail the problem by re-booting through the Dir's admin page without needs to hard-reset but soon after everything was said and done, Utorrent seemed not to give me the green sign but a yellow which I believe my TS and Dir can't port-forward anymore?

Here routers detail.

SpeedTouch 5x6 or TS 536v6FW: 5.4.0.14 >> Set as Gate-away to the Dir.
D-Link Dir 600, Rev: C1, FW: 3.02 which is latest. >> Set for my home network.

So no Firewall enabled, neither Antivirus but MSE that came with my Windows.

Also some Screen-Caps of my IP Address from both Router Admin page

- TS http://goo.gl/Ru9Jr
- Dir http://goo.gl/jR1BA

And here is Port-Forwarding setting through the Dir-600 and Utorrent Setup
- http://goo.gl/cg0cg

What do you think guys could it be?

Update - It seems the utorrent is giving me the Green sign (then high download speed) but goes from Green to Yellown (Low download speed) then stay in Yellow... so annoying.

Did you do the steps for the 2 routers like this?
http://www.pcwintech.com/how-setup-two-or-more-routers-together-port-forwarding-port-triggering

Also Utorrent uses UPnP which is auto port forwarding, make sure UPnP is turned on in utorrent and the routers and you wont need to setup any port forwarding rules.

Also the fact that you have to keep resetting the D-Link to get thing to work again makes me think the D-Link has some problems and may need to be replaced, or a different firmware.

Looks like DD-WRT might work
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/D-Link_DIR-600_/_300vB

I could only find firmware v 1.01 for the US version, you must have another one.

Thanks goodness you mentioned this which I've seen by your replies to others topics with the same troubles,  but then neither related option come near to what my Verizon/TS 536,  FW: 5.4.0.14  shows, or haven't found yet, can you enlighten me where it is in this exact router?, it is quite old, don't know if it support it.

Done but with the same results, although did never for the Dir, first time reading about if having both router with UPnP on Port-Forward won't be needed.

This, I had in mind which is a shame really, D-Link after all? so bad are they hardwares or this singular device?, now that I brought my Supply generator or Inversor in, don't need to shut the thing anymore, but it seems too late, also I forgot to write my Dir-600's Rev which is C1 there DDWRT ain't supported for but for Rev: A1, 2, Rev: B1, 2 only :(, but also C1 seems to be the only Rev to come with FW 3.02 which is the latest FW for said device., thank you for your response.

Shane

Tthorough reply as could.
Here is the Thomson admin page Tool-Box section http://i.imgur.com/7uZgn.jpg  that I believe if such an option exists, it must be in there but, as much as I have look'd around, haven't found anything related to DMZ in it.

Now fallowing something odd I found in the log section of the Thomson http://i.imgur.com/Azm9c.jpg which colors me confused, have never noticed it before (even with the firewall disabled?). While reading another post >>> http://goo.gl/frqZj <<< of the same router that you replied by.

Quote
Did you check that DMZ is disabled?

Also find the WAN status page, look for the WAN or Internet IP address. Does it match the IP on this page?
http://www.pcwintech.com/myip

I went to that link receiving http://i.imgur.com/mOGJp.jpg , further checking seems like my Dir-600 is showing me another IP http://i.imgur.com/tAW36.jpg either WAN and LAN area.

You think there lies the problem?

OK follow this guide for the Thomson
http://www.pcwintech.com/thomson-generic-guide-1-all-models

You are going to make 2 port forwarding rules. 1 TCP ports 1000 - 65000 and then another for UDP. Have them both point to the wan IP of the D-Link 10.0.0.5

After that is done close utorrent, make sure DMZ is off in the D-Link and then run my port tester on the utorrent port and let me know the results

http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester

I also wouldn't mind getting your Thomson model added to my simple port forwarding program if I don't already have it :-)

Will try your suggestion now, but let me do you a quick question about.

I went to this site http://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ it shows http://goo.gl/iYT2z port 80 is open, but when I try Utorrent's 18735, it isn't, is there a difference? just pointing that out to get everything in place.

Your router is responding to port 80, show it shows open.

My port tester opens and listens for the port on the system. If nothing accepts an incoming connection it will fail no matter what. So my port tester app is better to use than just a web page

http://www.pcwintech.com/thomson-generic-guide-1-all-models

Done and found either section that guide seems to a-pointing at... So it went like.
1 - Thomson admin page > Toolbox > Game & Application Sharing > Configure > Create a new game or application.
2 - Got this page http://goo.gl/FIEh9 > Choose Rule´s Name > Manual Entry of Port Maps > Next.
3 - Got http://i.imgur.com/SYqfe.jpg...

You are going to make 2 port forwarding rules. 1 TCP ports 1000 - 65000 and then another for UDP. Have them both point to the wan IP of the D-Link 10.0.0.5

4 - I Get http://i.imgur.com/VtIwU.jpg.m, now when trying to create the UDP and hit Add it pop up an error that says http://i.imgur.com/Ac1et.jpg, am I doing it right?

Hence Guide´s says:
Quote
Step 5.

For 'Protocol' Choose 'TCP' or 'UDP' depending on which you need to use.

For 'Port Range' enter the ports to be forwarded.
Example: 2100 to 2200 or 3000 to 3000

Click 'Add'.

Repeat this step for all ports.

Once you have entered all the ports for this entry click 'Assign a game or application to a local network device'.

Awaiting your reply.

Not sure why you are getting the error for UDP, is there a space in the box perhaps with the number?

Ok, so I got it  http://i.imgur.com/u8JDK.png. Btw... (What about the Trigger ports?)

5 - Fallowing the Guide With both TCP and UDP settled > Assign a game or application to a local network device > It redirect me to http://i.imgur.com/VuJpN.png > Hit add to assing the rule I created to the DIR-600 (or should I choose my PC? instead of the Dir?) ending up with > http://i.imgur.com/3ThKM.png.

So, I believe it is done, but when you say ¨Have them both point to the wan IP of the D-Link 10.0.0.5¨  you mean with Adding to assign the rule to the Dir or something else?

Screen caps.
Simple Port Tester: http://i.imgur.com/IPaLn.jpg
Utorrent: http://i.imgur.com/gi3nF.jpg

A lot of thank you, expecting you guys around G+, if you haven´t already got one.

I suppose the TS was blocking the Dir?, maybe I was erroneous of it working properly, so it´s bridged now? or how is this called, what I just did with the TS?.

All you did was setup port forwarding rules in the Thomson to point to the D-Link. That way all new incoming connections get sent to the D-Link, where from there you set it up like normal. It is a form of bridge mode I guess.

Let me know your happy and I will lock this thread
