Problem with port numbers
« on: August 14, 2011, 11:46:20 AM »
-EDIT- Never mind that, I fixed the numbers not being able to change.

But now I have trouble finding out what my router is. The reason I don't know this is because I connect to a computer in a different City through "Remote Desktop" via ip. I heard that you can access your router control panel by entering your "Default Gateway" in the browser which is 192.168.0.1. However that doesn't work for me.

So any way to find out what my router is?
Thanks in advance.

Log into it to find out what model it is.

1. Log into the remote desktop.
2. Open a command window
3. Type in ipconfig
4. The gateway ip is the IP to connect with.
5. Open IE or firefox and put in the gate way ip Example: http://192.168.0.1

Unless the router doesn't have any web pages to work with, like an Apple Airport router. Or someone has changed the http port the router uses. I have also seen some routers where the webpages in them have crashed and you have to power cycle the router to get them to come back up.

Normally just putting in http://192.168.0.1 should take you to the login page of the router.

Very few routers use https. No need for a secure connection when your connecting to it locally.

Anyway of power cycling the router?

The computer I am connecting to is in another city and I don't know anyone who could do that for me.
I guess there's no way for me to portforward that router. :/

There is one trick we can try that I did helping another user.

I had a user whose router was using a different port for the pages instead of 80. We found what port it was using by port scanning the router

So lets try it.
On the remote side, download
http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-internet-tools-dozen-simple-helpful-tools

Once installed open
Simple Internet Tools - Port Scanner

Put the router IP in and hit scan. Lets see what ports it is using :-)

So lets say it is using 8080 we will try to connect to that port like this

http://192.168.0.1:8080

Lets see how it goes

Umm, it didn't find any.

Does that mean that the computer doesn't have a router?
I am so sorry if I misunderstood that and made you think that it has.
The thing is, my port 36963 is closed and that made me think the computer has a router.

The game dedicated server .exe runs on port 36963.

It has a local IP address. So it is either behind a router or it got its IP from another machine, like a windows server with DHCP or another windows system with internet connection sharing.

If it was connected directly to the internet then its IP would be the same that shows up on this page

No, I mean the IP on that page and the local IP on the computer, when you open a command window and put in ipconfig.

Which from your picture
http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/59/unledgun.png/

Shows they don't match. So the system is behind something.
