Port closed?
« on: August 12, 2011, 09:55:31 AM »
I'm having what seems to be a common issue here, trying to set up my minecraft server and I am using port 25565 and I go through the whole program and it does it and says it works. But when I try to connect on minecraft it says it's failed. I'll go ahead and post my screenshots.

And while you can see those attachments, I'm just wondering, what in the world are all those unknown's?

What does the port test (Step 7) show when you test it?

Hmm, that's odd. Earlier it said open when I did it, now it says failed when I try step 7.

Has your local IP changed from .69?

OK do this, log into the router and remove the rule that the program setup.
Once done download and use this tool
http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-static-ip

Once you have your computer set to a static IP, then use my port forwarding program again, and make sure it points to the new ip

edit: I did all the things u said to do first.

When I test the port it's open and all but when I try to access it on minecraft it fails still. I guess i'm doing something else wrong on my end.

When you connect to your server you need to use the local IP when your on the same network. When outside your network like I am you use the internet ip

The reason why is your router doesn't like reverse nat

I am using my local IP (i think). It's not working. Also when I use PFPortChecker, it claims that my port is closed, just saying.

edit: maybe i'm not using my local IP though, how do I figure out that one? if it's the IP address under ipconfig, then that's the one I'm using that's not working.

dbl edit: also, now my port is closed when I test it. So... I'm not really sure what's happening here, lol

Dont use PFPortChecker since I don't support it. Thats why I have my own port tester :-)
http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester

Post a screen shot of the results of my port tester and also a screen shot of the port forwarding page so I can make sure everything is good.

Yeah, sorry. But then I tested it with yours then it said it failed. Tested just again now to take the screenshot and it said success now. I think when it said failed it said something about it being in use. Anyway, now that it passes right now, when I try it on the actual site, here: http://www.pcwintech.com/port_test.php?result=offline&port=25565

it says failed. So I'm not sure if it's open or not.

That's because my port tester opens the port and listens on it. If nothing accepts the connection then the test will fail no matter what. That's why i made the program :-)

If my port tester program says it works then that means it got a connection from my site, so we know the port forwarding is working.

So since that is working but you still cant connect to the game you need to check that the game is allow through your firewall on your system

I think it's a matter of my fire wall, as it takes a while to try and connect whereas before it just said connection failed right away. Now it makes time to try to connect to something, but in the end it fails and says connection timed out.

Also however, I followed the instructions on that link and I believe my router DOES support reverse NAT.
Also, when trying to connect to my minecraft server, if I try using my local IP, it fails immediately, but if I use my internet IP, then it will take the time to connect (until it fails). It doesn't even try to work when using my local IP for some reason.

We need to check and make sure minecraft is allowed din the firewall. Also, I don't use minecraft, but from I have learned from helping others is in the server config make sure  you don't have any IP set in there

Seriously? Tutorials told me to set it as my IP address. That could very well simply be the problem then. Did the sources that tell you that use a thing called Hamachi? Do you know? Because I'm trying not to use that. Anyway, I'll try it without putting anything for the server-ip
