D-Link DSL-2730B won't Port Forward
« on: July 28, 2011, 04:22:27 AM »
Firstly, Hi to All!

I've bought the Simple Port Forwarding software. Still no joy with the Forwarding.
I used it to forward port 80, 9000-9005, and 8080.
Only port 8080 was open according to the program but the software I want to run
still don't work. Port 80, 9000-9005 were still closed.

I'm trying to run 2 well known programs. WebcamXP & FilesharePro. I had them both
running through a Modem only on various ports in the past but that modem went up
in smoke.

Also, I was told that the 'Random Password' generated by the DSL-2730B can be disabled
but I can't see how, doesn't seem to be an option for that. I'm thinking that this may have
something to do with my computers as well, not just the modem, but what would I know!

Now, when I put in my IP [59.167.140.149] & port 8080 it sends me into the Modem! Grrrrr,,...!
Running XP+sp3 and firewall is off. Firewall is off in the router also. Not running any Antivirus either.

Thanks for reading & any Help.  Regards, Les.  [Australia]

Update :  I noticed that when I run the port forwarding software, it doesn't change anything in the router
at all! It's just as I left it. However, now port 8080 is closed again.
The program looks as though it's running but not actually changing anything. Hope this helps.

OK lets get started :cheesy:

Lets get some information first.
Is the software your port forwarding for running on you machine? Reason why I ask is I want to make sure the port forwarding rules are pointing to the right place.

Open a command window on your computer and type in ipconfig. Tell me what it shows for you computers IP address.

Then log into your router and go to the port forwarding page. Get a screen shot of that for me. (This will let me see if the rules are done right)

Also turn the windows XP firewall back on. I have seen the firewall block ports when turned off before!
You may even want to run my firewall repair tool
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/shanes_toolbox/Repair_WMI_Windows_Firewall.exe

Also in the D-Link find the WAN IP address it has. Is it your 59.167 address or is it something else?

Lets go from here

Hi Shane
Far as [ipconfig], the window closes instantly not allowing me to capture anything
so I'm sending a few extra Screen Shots. Hope they help. At least it shows the IP.
[took me 15 min to realize I wasn't logged in]

I ran all your software, & Firewall is back on. No Antivirus running. Just wondering Shane, I came
across a little program where YOU can control my computer, some kind of remote desktop. It's a
free program. If you feel it would help you, and I presume it would I can find it and activate it so
you can do your stuff. Just a thought. I've sent 4 Captures.

Thanks Shane.  Les.

I see a lot of problems on the port forwarding page.

On the port forwarding rules, remote IP should be blank.
Also you shouldn't have more than one rule pointing to the same port. So we need to clean up those duplicates.

Also open a command window then put in ipconfig

accept the correct one I guess!  :undecided:  A pic of the ipconfig is attached.
PS: now why diddn't I think of running CMD first! There, don't say I diddn't learn anything.

Thanks.  Les.

OK good, just wanted to verify your IP :-)

Ok since you have dmz enabled (Which is a open every port rule)
I want you to remove all the port forwarding rules.

I also want you to check the status page in the router and find the WAN ip address. Does it match the address on this page?

OK Shane, all the stuff from Port Forwarding is Blank, but there is no mention of any WAN.
Could that be under some other name ?

Im a dork, you already posted the screen shot with it lol, its almost 11 pm for me

The IP's match so we got that covered, your not behind 2 routers.

Now with DMZ on and pointing to your system, in a perfect world, then any port you test with my tester should work
http://www.pcwintech.com/simple-port-tester

Try it and let me know how it goes.

Before you do perhaps a power cycle of the router would be a good idea as well :-)

OK now we need to find out if it is your router or the computer. Do you have a 2nd computer in your house?

Perfect!

Hook it up, find its local ip (ipconfig again)
Put its ip in the dmz in the router. Download my port tester and let me know the results
