port forwarding doesn't seem to be working
« on: July 26, 2011, 03:32:03 PM »
Would it be possible for you to please test my port forwarding again?

I had to reset my network settings to resolve a "duplicate IP address" issue, which you advised me about in another thread.  After I did that, it assigned a new IP to my Lorex DVR, so I had to go back and reconfigure my port forwarding settings in the router to reflect the new IP address of the DVR.

That has all been done, however, I still cannot connect to the DVR via the internet.  I can connect locally with the lorex client software just fine.

My URL is http://driftcreek.lorexddns.net:8080      Could you please check and see if you can get to the login screen?  All I get is the circle spinning like it's trying to connect, but something is blocking it.

I have temporarily disabled my firewall in both the router and the PC, as well as the antivirus software.  I also put all the lorex addresses in the "trusted sites" section of IE.

THANK YOU.

No reason to do anything on your computer. Your computer isnt in the mix for the port forwarding to the dvr :cheesy:

Get me a picture of the new IP the dvr has and a picture of the port forwarding rules and I will check that they are good

OK... here's a screen shot of what's on the port forwarding page of the router.

And here's what the "network settings" say on the Lorex DVR:

Type  DHCP
Media Port 09000
Web Port 08080
IP address 192.168.000.010
Netmask 255.255.255.000
Gateway 192.168.000.001
DNS1  024.205.192.061
DNS2  000.000.000.000
Auto port forwarding  enable/disable (currently set on enable)

Everything looks good.

Something very strange. Tried connecting didn't work. Kept trying then all of a sudden it did work.
Took forever but it finally asked to install the active x control.

So it is working now

That's my experience as well.  Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't, without there being any rhyme or reason to it.  Maybe the Lorex ddns web site/server/whatever is just crap and it only works sporadically?  That's the only explanation that seems logical since you can connect to it on occasion-- same as what's happening here.

My brother-in-law is an OTR truck driver with only limited internet access and he could connect to my cameras from out on the road 1000+ miles away for a short time.  Then when he tried again-- no go.

Oh well... I'm burned out from computer problems now... I'll look at it again tomorrow.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

You have a problem of it cutting in and out a lot.

So whats the common factors? 2 things.

1. Your ISP modem/router.
2. Your DVR.

One of the two is causing the problem. Just going to be hard to find out which.

Now your dvr doesn't care how you connect to it. So here is a test that could possibly tell us which is having the problem.

When you connect to the dvr locally do you have any trouble? When your connecting locally your not going through your ISP.
So if it works just fine locally then it could be the modem/router.

No problem connecting locally.  I can just launch that lorex client software and my cameras pop up on the screen instantly.

But if I (or anyone else) tries to connect to it remotely, then sometimes it connects and sometimes it doesn't.

Then I strongly think it is the modem/router from the ISP.

We already know the firewall is turned off. You have already recycled the power to it. I think it needs to be replaced.
Does it have a DMZ page in it by chance?

DMZ is a open every port rule. Some times if the port forwarding is malfunctioning like this we can use DMZ until the modem/router is replaced (OF course that's if DMZ is working right lol)

The router has a DMZ page... and it asked for the mac address to add to the list... which I added the Lorex DVR mac address.

I put the DVR mac address into the DMZ in the router... clicked bypass everything... and also put the DVR mac address in the "station allow" section... still no go.

Mac address? It should be asking for the IP. Grab a screen shot of the DMZ page for me

I hope this is what you're asking for...  that mac address shown is the mac address for the lorex dvr.

Yeah your router sucks lol

Thats not a normal DMZ I was thinking off. Should have just asked for a normal IP. You can go ahead and remove that.

At this point it may not be a bad idea to see if there is a firmware update for the router (Hopefully fixes these bugs) Or just replace it all together.
