Add Another DVR?
« on: July 21, 2011, 03:51:59 PM »
Hi Shane, since my last thread was closed, i started a new one, hope you don't mind.

Is it possible to add a second DVR to my earlier setup?  i tried to add a second one and followed all the settings for the first DVR (which is working, thanks to you) but changed the 2nd DVR's port to 5001, but i can't access it.  i added a port forwarding option for 5001, same as the first DVR (5000) but it doesn't work.

You can setup as many dvr's as you like to one network. Just a couple things to keep in mind is all.

1. When using a static IP they each must have a different IP.
So lets say DVR #1 has 192.168.250 then DVR #2 can have 192.168.251.

2. The ports. Most DVR's use 2 ports. Port 80 and then another port like 5000.
On DVR #2 you will need to change both. And then setup port forwarding rules to them.

The http port is normally 80. When you change it, say 81 you have to add one more thing to the string to connect.
Example http://192.168.1.251:81

You can only port forward a port to one device at a time. So if you want to access both of them from the internet then the 2nd has to use different ports

Go to the network setup in the dvr. It should show the port 50001 and the http port as well :-)

Great, now get me a picture of the port forwarding page in your router so I can make sure the rule is setup correctly
