How to Open Port?
« on: July 18, 2011, 06:41:06 PM »
Hi Shane, it's been a long time since i posted here.

i've been using port 5000 which used to be open for my DVR.  Since my isp changed my modem/router, port 5000 is now closed.  Is there a way to manually open a port?

Thank you for your time.

You need to setup the port forwarding rule in the new modem/router.

Did your ISP give you a new modem?

yes they did give me a new modem.  it's a prolink h5201.

using http://canyouseeme.org/ to check port 5000, the result is this:
Error: I could not see your service on xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx(ISP Given IP) on port (5000)

Reason: Connection timed out

could you walk me through on how to do this?

my setup is this:

Prolink Modem/Router(from isp) <= Dlink DIR-300 <= DVR

Prolink:
LAN IP: 192.168.1.1
DMZ = enabled for (192.168.0.1 - Dlink Router IP)
Port Forwarding:  NONE

Dlink:
IP Address 192.168.0.1
Port Forwarding:
Name: DVR   Public Port: 5000-5000
IP Address 192.168.0.xxx   Private Port: 5000-5000

DVR:
IP Address 192.168.0.xxx
Port: 5000

Hi Shane,
i've set my DLink internet setup connection to Static.  my problem is, if i do so, i can't connect to the internet anymore.

i also have a working setup at my office but my problem is i cannot log into my first modem/router (given by my isp) there.  i forgot it's ip address.  i can only log into my office's 2nd modem.  if i type in my static ip given by my isp at my office, it logs into my 2nd modem

OK get me a screen shot of the DMZ page in the modem
Also a screen shot in the D-Link showing its WAN IP.

Thats the wrong IP

That is the LAN ip of the D-Link. We need the WAN ip.

What D-Link model do you have? I can get a screen shot of the page you need to find :cheesy:

The internet IP on this page in your router
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/screenshots/Dlink-DIR-300/021.png

is the IP that should be put in dmz in the modem
