Huawei EchoLife HG520b woes
« on: June 02, 2011, 11:02:58 AM »
Hi there :)

Thanks for the tools.  I can't get my router to work though.

I just bought a NAS drive and I am trying to forward port 80 to it for the webserver on it.

But to cut a long story short.  I ran your program okay and set up the 'Forwarded To' to point to my NAS and ports were both 80.

Updated router.  But the ports are not open. MY phone gives me an 504 Error.

I thought I would try the Multiple Router detect tool, but that refuses to instal :(

I was just wondering if you know of some tricks on this router.

BTW I am with Talk Talk and running W7 64bit.

The NAS drive is a Synology ds110j and is working fine otherwise, it's brand new.

Cheers :)

Lets check a few things first :-)

Log into your router and find its WAN or Internet IP address. Does it match the IP on here?

BTW I just found that port forwarding on port 5000 seems to be working.  But alas not 80, which is the one I am concerned with at the moment.

Some ISP's block port 80. Or since your router is using it, might be causing the problem.
Try using a different port and see how things go :-)

Okay then.  Can I pick your brains a little on that ?

I have my DDNS with No-IP and I see they have an option for port redirect, so that means if I find an okay port I should set my NAS drive to listen on the same port as I forward from at No-Ip ?

And the million dollar question....what ports/ranges can you suggest.  I don't know much about ports apart from the basic ones, which I know are already used.

Thanks mate :)

Any higher port would be good.
Say port  8080

Then to connect you can just do http://99.99.99.99:8080

You will notice the :8080 attached to the sample IP.

The rediect can do the same as well on the dns service. People come in on port 80 and you tell it to redirect to port 8080

Also you need to set your nas to use that port as well

You sir have made my day

Would you believe it's taken me about 6 or 7 hours to sort this out.  So many variations on solutions and none of them mentioned trying another port.

Finally it works.

For the benefit of others using same kit : Synology ds110j and Huawei EchoLife HG520b

Firstly I set up the port forwarding on my router to send port 8081 (didn't like 8080 for some reason) to my NAS drive IP...needs to be static...the easy bit so Google that.

I had set up the DDNS service with www.no-ip.com earlier in the day.

So I went back to them and edited my domain.  Clicked on 'Port 80 Redirect' radio button and put 8081 in there.

On the NAS drive there were a couple of things to fix :

Web Services->Web Applications->Virtual Hosts = Make sure the directories are set up for port 8081 too.
Web Services->Web Applications->Add Additional HTTP Port = 8081 again.

Use the online checker and test port 8081 :  http://www.pcwintech.com/port_test.php

And I really hope you get it working because I know how frustrating it is !

Shane, is there somewhere I can make a donation as I think I will find your tools useful and just want to say thanks :)
