If you have a copy of the email, you can give this a try.

If a person used a proxy you wont be able to get very far. If the person wasn't smart enough to use a proxy to hide his IP then you have a good chance.

I dont trace people down like this, so I am not the best to ask.

But if you can get the email header info it will have the IP of the sender.
You can use tools like IP location on here
http://www.webyield.net/domainquery.html

You can then use that to show the emails didn't come from you as well.

The problem that you are probably running into is that the most you can come up with is the IP of the mail server that sent the mail. This isn't going to be the same as the IP address of the sender. For instance, if I sent an email using gmail then it is only going to show up as Google's servers and then you'd have to contact Google to ask them for the IP address of the original sender. If it's a company like Google or Microsoft or Yahoo and it's their web mail service then they aren't going to give that information easily.

Is this the sort of problem you are running into?

Actually that is what i am trying to solve...
whenever i'm trying to trace the ip it only gives the email service provider or the inet service provider's IP..
hmmmm is there a way that i can find the sender's exact or i may say more precise location? i need to solve this case because reputation is at stake. hehhee

The email or internet service provider would have to provide that information and they probably won't do that easily.

Does someone have access to your account and has hijacked your email? If yes, then have you regained control? I'm trying to find out what happened so that I can try to give the best advice on how to do damage control or prepare to prevent it from happening again.

This really sounds like something that you need to involve the management of the company in since it is clearly an internal matter. Since you know that the person is someone who is employed by the company as well then don't you think that they would want to be involved? If the person is using a company email then the network admin should be able to help you out and if they are using an outside (personal) address then you'd have to see who the address is registered to (name and IP address) which you can only get from the email provider itself.

If this can cost you your job then you should be able to take some sort of legal action (assuming you are in the USA). This is all just general advice as I'm not a lawyer. All I can really say for sure is that whoever is in charge of the email service is the one who can give you the information that you want/need. This isn't really a computer problem as much as it is a person problem and unfortunately there isn't much I can do to help because of that.
