CleanMem (MiniMonitor.exe) internet connections attempting
« on: April 27, 2011, 04:20:07 PM »
I have downloaded the zip version of CleanMem 2.1.0 to run this in standalone (portable) mode.

Every time I execute "Mini_Monitor.exe" my firewall (COMODO) alerts me that the exe file tries to connect to the internet. Precisely the alerts about "Mini_Monitor.exe" are two: 1) it tries to connect to the IP 69.163.136.13 2) it tries to connect to the IP 192.88.99.1.

I have blocked these connection attempts. Does MiniMonitor search for updates every time it is launched? Is it possible to disable these ("feature") connection attempts?

Hi and thanks for this useful and good program! :)

I believe it does check for an update. Shane can give you more specifics about what is going on since he wrote it. I can say that the overzealous warnings from COMODO drove me nuts so I stop using it.

Shane is currently out of town but is checking the forums at night so expect an answer in around 6 hours or tomorrow.

Thank You for the answer Evan.

Also I think that the program attempts to connect the internet to search for updates. I suppose it is a legitimate behaviour, but I would like to remove the automatic update searching. In the preferences I did not found an appropriate option to do this, then I wrote here to know if there is a specific way to do it.

I will wayt Shane answer.

Thank you again for your attention to my question.

The program is just checking the serial code if you have one
The IP is my website.

The program only makes the one connection attempt. I don't know why it is trying to connect to your local IP. Might just be the inet control using the local ip to connect to the site and comodo is seeing it as two attempts

Thank You Shane for the answer.

A question: CleanMem tries to connect to internet every time it is launched both in Free and Pro version? Or, once registered it will no more tries to connect to internet to verify the serial code?

It's a very good program but I believe it would have to check the serial code only one time, i.e.: when you insert it to register the program. If You do not perform the registration procedure, it seems strange that the program every time is launched tries to connect to internet.

BTW..... my IP is not " 192.88.99.1 " ..... my IP is absolutely different.

Best Regards. And thanks for the answers.

P.S.: the Pro version license is a LIFETIME LICENSE (i.e.: all future upgrades will be free)?

It doesn't check if the key is allowed, it checks if it is blocked.

I have some people who (Even for a $5 app) order it through paypal, get the key, then dispute it saying they never ordered it. So to stop those people I block those keys they get.

The program will still work even if it doesn't get to my site.

I don't believe in hurting my users to stop a few bad ones.
The program should only be checking if the key is blocked or not in the pro and totally bypassing the connection in the free. Looks like I need to take a look and put out a fix if needed

As for the lifetime license, I dont now. I dont have any plans for a v3 yet so never thought about it lol.
But keep in mind, I put the user first

Just checked and yes it is checking even when no key code is in the program (Free version)!
I had it in there set to skip, but left one option too many in there so it was making it trigger.

It should be fixed. So it will only connect to the site when there is a key code, no key code, no connection. I have attached the fixed mini monitor (v2.1.1)
Replace the one you have with it and let me know if it is fixed. If so I will update and release CleanMem v2.1.1

Shane

Just done! :) FULL SUCCESS!
I have replaced the old "Mini_Monitor.exe" with this new version and now the program does not connect no more to internet, when you launch it.

Thank You VERY MUCH for this new (fixed) release. Very, very good job.

My Best Regards. :)

P.S.: I would like to support your work by buying the PRO Version.
But... I have a question: The Pro Version will attempt to connect to internet only one time, i.e.: when you will enter the reg key; or will it connect every time you launch the software to verify the key code?
