Incorrect Amount of Memory (Vista)
« on: April 24, 2011, 03:01:37 PM »
Hello...

I'm using CleanMem 2.1.0 on a Vista Home PC.  I noticed today that when I hover the pointer over the icon in the system tray, it tells me that I have 3.25GB total memory.  However, I have 4GB installed.  I know there was a limitation with Windows XP not being able to recognize more than 3GB of memory but didn't that issue get resolved with Vista?  And if so, shouldn't CleanMem be showing that I have 4GB of memory?

The 4GB limit is a limitation of any 32 bit operating system. If you happened to use a 64 bit version of Windows XP you wouldn't have the same limit. 64 bit versions of Vista were far more common and as a result you might confuse what actually causes the limit (the 32 bit operating system).

A certain amount memory has to be reserved for system resources (such as the motherboard and graphic memory). What you are seeing reported is what Windows Vista "sees" as the total amount of memory it has available to work with. It's perfectly normal.

Just as Evan said. If your system is 32 bit that is why your not seeing the full 4Gb
