TCP Success, UDP Failed, Minecraft server
« on: March 03, 2011, 09:48:04 AM »
Hi

Im setting up a minecraft server for me and a friend. Ive gone through quite a few tutorials to set it up - forwarding through my D-Link DSL 2640S router, provided by Sky.

I have attached screenshots of the router firewall and services pages and one of your program main menu.

My ipconfig IPv4 address is 192.168.0.2

I use 192.168.0.1 to access my router.

I used your program to add the TCP and UDP 25565 ports to the sky router, which added successfully the ones you see in the screenshots.

I then tested the ports like it says to do in your list of instructions (7) and the TCP port check returned SUCCESS, but the UDP port returned FAILED.

I have disabled Windows Firewall, and use ESET Smart Security package, yet i still cannot connect to my Minecraft server!

My IP is static for all i can tell (staying the same for the whole week i have checked).

Before i used your program i couldnt even get the TCP port to open, but after using your program the TCP port check worked. Am i doing something wrong with the UDP?

Cheers

Normally when UDP is failing and TCP passes it is either because of a bug in the router (Which I doubt here)
Or because of a persons firewall blocking UDP (They try to protect against UDP flood attacks)

So there is a good chance it is your ESET Smart Security package if it has a firewall feature. Even when turned off it will still block it. What you need to do is go into it and make sure that the UDP is allowed through.

I also helped another user who only had the Windows firewall. They used my windows firewall repair tool on my tool box page and it helped, but it also turned out in the advanced setting of the firewall (It was Win 7) there was a rule to block the program, so need to make sure you check that as well

Thank you, i now have port 25565 TCP and UDP both open. But i still cant connect to my minecraft server using my external ip address. Ive tried adding :25565 on the end of it, still not working. It always comes up with "Failed to connect to the server. Connection failed: connect"

Its really odd since now i have the ports open it shud work shudnt it?

When connecting to your self you need to use your local IP. This is because of revers nat
http://www.pcwintech.com/test-for-reverse-nat

But when you have others connect they will connect with your internet ip

Just try and have a friend connect to your minecraft server with the public IP address and use the internal one for yourself.

If you need, I can try and connect to your server.  Just send me a Private Message if you want me to try that.
