Double port forwarding with linksys WRT54G and embarq 660
« on: March 01, 2011, 03:44:21 PM »
So, I'm attempting to double port forward so I can host an online game. I've got it before with this set up, but some things got changed and this time I guess I can't get it. I know all the basics, but all I'm here for is the easiest way to set this up. I'm not quite sure if I'm doing it right. But those are my two routers. So I'd just like a quick run through of how to do this. After that I think I should be able to easily get it. :D
Thanks a bunch. I hope this isn't too annoying to answer. :P

Sure can :-)

First, log into your linksys. Then in the linksys go to the status page. There it will show you its internet IP. Write it down.

On that same page is the gateway it has, this is the IP to log into the embarq if you need it.

Now log into the embarq. Find the DMZ page if it has one. On the DMZ page you will enable it and put the IP you wrote down from the linksys. Now save.

If for some reason the embarq doesn't have a DMZ page then what we need to do is a port forwarding rule instead. The port forwarding rule will be for ports 1000 - 65535 for TCP & UDP and will point to the IP you wrote down.

What we are doing is telling the embarq to send all incoming connections to the linksys. Once that is working then your port forwarding will work.

Now once this is all done and your port forwarding still fails then we need to make sure ht eport forwarding rules are setup correctly.

To do this I will need 2 screen shots. 1st one will be of the main window of my simple port forwarding program. This will let me see your local ip.
The 2nd screen shot will be of the port forwarding page in the linksys. This will let me see the port forwarding rules

Lets go from there :-)

Alright. I did all of that stuff but it's still not working.. D: I'm fairly sure I entered in everything correctly; so I'm somewhat confused..

Here are those 2 screenshots. Thanks a lot for your time by the way  :cheesy:

OK good, the port forwarding rule looks fine :-)

Now I want to confirm the DMZ setup is right.

So post a screen shot of the status page in the linksys, this will let me see the WAN IP it has.
Then post a screen shot of the DMZ page in the modem.

This way I can check those.

Also do you have another computer we can test with? This will help me tell if the program is somewhere in the router setup, or a firewall problem on your system.

What I want to do is setup a port forwarding rule to another system and see if it works.

And of course you are running my port tester to test? (Step 7)

Yup :D
Alright. Let's see.. here are the screenshots.

Yeah, I could try that quick. I pretty sure it's not the firewall. I've already added the port I want to the exception list.
But yeah, I'll try it on another computer quick.

Hmmm... nope. The other computer didn't work either, so I think it's with the double router set up.

Haha, yeah, I'm using your open port tester

Look at #3 on here

So it'd be fine to just disable the firewall for the embarq modem/router? :O

Sure will. Or just set the WAN to LAN to allow

Alright. Done.
Sorry about the random absence. I was busy.. But now, back to work

I am also wondering if the packet direction has anything to do with it.. There's a screenshot.

Shouldn't need to. Post a screen shot of the first page of the firewall settings

Hahah, alright. It's really a surprise to me that I was able to successfully open this port before.  :cheesy: Hopefully we'll be able to figure it out again

Okay.. So I am guessing you mean this page? :O
