Also, when it happens does the reset windows positions fix it? (On the right click menu)

Not a bug I am aware of. So for some reason the window is opening off the screen. But why.
I have the positions saved in the reg.

Here is mine

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PcWinTech\CleanMem Mini Monitor]
"FrmMonitor_x"="1230"
"FrmMonitor_y"="-4605"
"FrmMain_x"="6090"
"FrmMain_y"="6555"

(My mini monitor is on my 2nd monitor that's why you see a negative number)

The positions are not saved till you exit the program. I wonder if some how on your system the windows are being moved at shut down.

Here is what I would like you to do. Make a note of the current reg positions you have now that it is working.

When it happens again, check the reg settings and compare. Let me know what you get :wink:

Weird !! The registry on my laptop has an entry called:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PcWinTech]

but it's completely EMPTY ! Is the anti virus program to blame for not allowing CM to make changes to that registry (sub)key ?

The rest clears it out. So close the mini monitor, it will save the positions and check that reg key again :-)

But when I close CM this shows up (thanks to Regedit.exe):

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PcWinTech]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PcWinTech\CleanMem Mini Monitor]
"FrmMain_x"="2265"
"FrmMain_y"="3945"

The settings windows is placed right in the middle of a screen with 1024x768 pixel size. See also the info in the text file I included in the *.zip file in a previous post.

Its in twips not pixels :-)

So keep that for your records. Next time the windows doesn't open, or actually opens off screen, go check those reg keys again and let me know what they say :wink:

I have been fiddling with the settings in that particular (sub-)key and this is what I came across:
1. changed both values to 1, 0(zero) and -1 and the settings windows was placed in the top left hand corner of the screen.
2. changed the value to an absurd high value (40.000, forty thousand) and then the windows fails to pop up. (When I then close CM then the value is changed from 40.000 to 40.005. Does CM do this ??) Perhaps one or two same high negative values also push the window out of the scope of the screen, as well ?

I also removed those two subkeys and double clicked on the system tray icon but the window popped up in the center of the screen. Weird, I expected the window to not pop up.

A possible solution: add an additional check whether the values/""twips"" are within range of the computer screen(s) followed by a repositioning of the window. It seems the ""twips"" value of the top left hand corner is 0, 0.
To be continued !

What I want to see is what the values get set to on their own that makes it go off screen.
So don't change the values, and lets see what they get when it messes up.

When no value is set then it opens in the middle of the screen. This is by design.
I could put in a check on the persons screen res. Which I may end up having to do no matter what. But the problem comes down to people with multiple monitors. Like myself. I get a negative value when on the other monitor.

So grabbing the screen res of one monitor will cause a problem. I know on my screen saver program I made for simple internet meter takes multiple monitors into account, I may need to look at that code if it comes down to it.

I did understand. But I wanted to report what happened when I was fiddling with the values. I haven't got a clue when this weird behaviour occurs again. So, we'll have to wait and see.

Thats the part I am curious about. What might be moving the window and changing the values :wink:

Topic: CM system tray icon.

As I have mentioned before, I DO like it because it shows CM is alive and and kicking and it shows memory usage. I have changed the colors to the following scheme (perhaps to be the default settings in a future CM version ?):
1. < 50%: blue(ish) (cyan ??) with black letters.
2. >50% and <75%: yellow with black letters.
3. >75%: red with white characters.

Here's another question: when I start my laptop memory usage goes up dramatically (>60% up to about and sometimes even over 90%). I blame the recently installed anti virus program.  Then processes called ""svchost.exe"" suddenly start using a lot of memory (Taskmanager). It looks like the anti virus program  starts scanning a large amount/all (???) (system ??) files on my harddisk upon start up. Am I right with this assumption ?

The same story for a process called ""wuaudt.exe"" (Win XP). So, I manually turn the automatic update service on only after the second tuesday of the month and then only for one cumputer session.

In both cases Windows becomes a snail for - at least - 5 to 30 minutes and in both cases the CM system tray icon provides an answer what to look for.

Up to now no news concerning the (somewhat) weird ""double clicking"" behaviour of the CM Settings Windows. A solution could be that CM writes the values in the registry directly after the user has moved the window and when CM closes. Something for the next CM version ?

svchost.exe is what services are ran through. Could be windows updates doing. XP was horrible about that.
