Port Test Failure
« on: February 12, 2011, 03:57:51 PM »
Hi;

I have a Netgear WPN824N Router that I am trying to set up a port on.  I opened up the Simple Port Forwarding program and set up the TCP and UDP ports. Then after updating the router I selected the ' Test that the Ports Now Work ' option. After about 30 seconds the test fails. I checked and on the port tester it says " IP to listen to is 192.168.1.3." My router IP is 192.168.1.1 but when I go to the drop down menu to select another IP there isn't one to select. Is this the problem? because it seems to be.

I tried going to the 'run' application and typing in 'cmd' then 'ipconfig.' and I got:

IP Address - 192.168.1.3
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway - 192.168.1.1

Can anyone lend me some assistance?

Regards,
Pheonix

The port tester listens on your computer, so that is the right IP.

Lets check and make sure the port forwarding rule was setup correctly.

Post a screen shot of the port forwarding page in the netgear.

This will let me see if the rule was added correctly.

A screenshot of the port forwarding page in the Simple Port Forwarding screen or my routers Port Forwarding page?

Thanks for the reply

OK, now in the netgear, find the basic status page. On this page it will show you the WAN or Internet IP of the netgear.

Does it match the IP on the port tester page?

Ok I logged in, it was .254. but I cannot find a DMZ setting on any of the setup pages. There is a port forwarding page but with no DMZ settings

Not a problem. Go to the port forwarding page. You are going to make 2 rules

First rule
IP: 192.168.254.2 Ports 1000 to 65535 TCP
Next one
IP: 192.168.254.2 Ports 1000 to 65535 UDP

Save and then go try my port tester again
