Cod4 server help (using home pc as dedicated server)
« on: February 12, 2011, 03:21:56 AM »
Hello everybody, :P
i have just created a server on call of duty 4. the server 'works' as it shows up in the 'Local' server tab, but not internet. i can join my server just fine, but it is connecting to my internal ip (10.1.1.2:28960). how do i choose or find out the IP that i send to my friends so they can join my server without being on my home network? all i need is an external ip associated with my server..
thankyou in advance everybody, have a nice day:D
-Adam :)

edit:
here is the net_ip and net_port commands output, after being typed in the console:

Code: [Select]
]net_ip
"net_ip" is: "localhost" default: "localhost"
latched: "124.168.131.203"
  Domain is any text

Code: [Select]
]net_port
"net_port" is: "28960" default: "28960"
latched: "28930"
Domain is any integer from 0 to 65535

the latched port is different from my current port, i dont think this is normal, should i foward 28930 and then set that as my port?

thanks, so how do i associate it with my server?
do i just tell my friends to type /connect 124.168.149.252:28960, or do i have to  set a parameter in the shortcut for the server console launcher saying +net_ip 124.168.149.252 ?

Just tell your friends to use that IP, no changes are needed on your end

everytime when my friends tried connecting directly to that IP, they timed out :/
here is the console output when i typed some commands:
_________________________________________________________

]status
map: mp_showdown
num score ping guid                             name            lastmsg address               qport rate
--- ----- ---- -------------------------------- --------------- ------- --------------------- ----- -----

Hitch warning: 514 msec frame time
_________________________________________________________
]net_ip
"net_ip" is: "localhost" default: "localhost"
latched: "124.168.131.203"
  Domain is any text
_________________________________________________________
]net_port
"net_port" is: "28960" default: "28960"
latched: "28930"
Domain is any integer from 0 to 65535
________________________________________________________
a few questions;
whats hitch warning, and is this my problem
is it bad my ip is localhost and what is the "latched" ip
whats the latched port
could this be a problem with my .cfg file?
once  again my ports have been confirmed by 3 programs as being fowarded
Thanks in advance for reply
-Adam

I haven't setup a COD4 server before so I am not sure.

You have confirmed the ports are open and working. SO we know that isnt the problem.

Have you made sure the game is allowed through your firewall on your system?
Also are you sure you forwarded every port needed for the game?

Give this a try and see if it helps.
Like I said, i haven't setup the server before for the game. And if your port forwarding is working then it sounds like something with the game config.

Look here
http://johncao.net/Cod4/cod4/servertutorial.htm

+set dedicated   [1\2] 1 = Lan, 2 = Internet

Check that setting and make sure it is set to 2

its set to internet..
would adding "+net_ip xx.xx.xx.xx" (using real values) change the ip people use to connect to my server?
surely somebody here must have created a successful server before..?

You will never use the internet IP in the config.

When you give it a IP you give it your local. It needs that IP to know which IP to use on the system.
The server has no way to tell what your internet IP is.

Your shortcut to the server should look like this

iw3mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate +set net__ip 10.1.1.2 +set net_port 28960

Also in my port tester, make sure 28960 for both TCP AND UDP are successful

Just because I haven't set up the server before doesn't mean I still won't try to help

And you are correct +set sv_punkbuster 0 will disable punkbuster

On rules 0 = False and 1 = True

alright when editing my shortcut i found that i typed +net__ip instead of +net_ip, this was causing every command after this typo to not work, server still not up and working though..
now when i type
net_ip and net_port into the console after activating the server i get:
Code: [Select]
]net_ip
"net_ip" is: "10.1.1.2" default: "localhost"
  Domain is any text
]net_port
"net_port" is: "28960" default: "28960"
Domain is any integer from 0 to 65535
well this gets me 1 step closer to a working server, now all i need to know is What ip do i use?"
i have a WAN ip (124.168.149.252) and also an internet ip (124.168.149.252), but none of these work. i can obviously just connect to me server by finding it under "LOCAL" but i cant test if people can connect or not..
so what do i use to connect to my server?
