Installed windows 7 and cant install SPF
« on: January 22, 2011, 04:06:48 AM »
For a few years now I have used Simple Port forwarding on both Windows XP pro and Vista, in fact im guilty of recomending it at every chance I get!
Now however I put windows 7 on a new hard drive everything works fine but I came to install SPF (and lets face it until I get another game the Router is already set). It simply will not install!
I tried another mirror and the same thing - X unable to open setup file
I am using windows 7 32 bit, IE 8 and have AVG installed, so any Ideas ?

What happens when you try to install it?

I am on Windows 7 64 bit myself and have no trouble.

Also did you try the direct download off of
http://www.simpleportforwarding.com/download

On a side note, I am working on SPF v3.0.19 and have made a ton of changes to the scripting code, I need it tested, you up for trying the new version?

Sure I am up to trying it I have used SPF for almost every game I have, as for what happens the answer is nothing I tried 2 mirrors and I just get a launcher error box with the message in the first post - unable to open setup file.

However the zip file (the direct download) worked thanks.
I had tried the one from majorgeeks and from softpedia and they were both the exe so it seems for some reason I have a problem with the installing as the error hints at.

Oh and the reason I stated I used AVG in the first post is that it spits simple static IP straight in the vault  I am tempted to go pro to be honest but worried that including the static IP part may not agree with avg.

Edit No I did go to pro and I had no problem with the static IP part, now if only I wasnt working out of a file and had it installed neatly  :cheesy: ..............

Not an AVG fan myself, I use Avira (www.free-av.com)
Free for home users and better than AVG
Results are here
http://www.av-comparatives.org/

When I get home today I will hook you up with v3.0.19
I wonder if your AVG is simply blocking the exe setup's?

Here is v3.0.19 if you want to give it a run.

http://www.pcwintech.com/files/setups/simple_port_forwarding_v3.0.19_setup.exe
or
http://www.pcwintech.com/files/setups/simple_port_forwarding_v3.0.19.zip

Here is the current change log
v3.0.19
GUI code fixes.
Added a new right click menu option to the rule list in the main window of the program. "Update All With Current Local IP" will allow a user to update all the rules in the list with their current local IP. This is useful for the people who use the portable version with thumb drives and on jobs and the local IP is different on each machine they run it on. Also for users who haven't ran the program for a while and their local IP is different. Before the user had to click on each rule to update the IP. Now they can do it with one click.
Major code improvements.
Updated the log text to be easier to read.
Program is now compatible with DEP, and should stop the program from crashing when DEP is enabled on the system.

I just need it tested before I put it out. Since I did some many changes to the code I need to make sure I didn't break anything

You would think if AVG was blocking the setup AVG would have at least notified you lol.
It's things like that that bug me about AVG.

Anyways how did v3.0.19 work for ya?

Well it seems to though to be honest as everything I wanted to forward was already done the window is empty this means I can not right click and change the IP I added a new app to the list and it seems to give me the option and everything seems good.
Nice touch btw but now to get more control I am tempted to clear out my router and forward the ports all over again just to get them in the list of SPF.
I suppose there is no way to do this in any other way as view/remove ports brings up the browser?

Right, just click view/remove ports button. The program will take you right to the port forwarding page where you can clear out the rules
