No Internet access at VMware
« on: December 22, 2010, 03:42:38 AM »
I'm using Windows XP on it, and there is suddenly not internet access. I don't know what other details to provide!

EDIT:
The "sent packets" are always increasing, so are the received packets.

I can ping my router from the virtual machine, and I can ping the virtual machine from my original OS

So in the vmware you can ping the router, have packets being sent and rec. yet no page is loading?
can you ping 8.8.8.8?

That is Google dns servers. If you can then in your vmware your DNS is messed up. Check and see what your dns settings are at in it. also open a command window and type in
ipconfig /flushdns

ping 8.8.8.8 :-
Code: [Select]
Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=172ms TTL=50
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=515ms TTL=50
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=359ms TTL=50

flushdns was performed successfully, but not change.

Wait, I forgot that I'm at a cafe now (but still its the same, I can't access the web)

The weird thing is that the settings are assigned manually at the VMware connection (e.g. gateway: 192.168.1.254) still I could ping 8.8.8.8 (from VMware)

Auto, then cmd window
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew

You said your at a cafe. So I take it the laptop can get on but not the vmware on it. Which is odd.
But right now your vmware is set to bridged. Perhaps you need to set it to nat instead while you at the cafe.

I'm home now, I first tried to go to google.com and msn.com and yahoo.com
they worked...

now only msn works.. yahoo.com & google.com don't

also I can't release the connection (no adapter is in the permissible state for this operation.)

now msn.com also doesn't work... this is all messed up!

(PS: the settings to the adapter are manually assigned now, as I need them so for DMZ.)

dns is going nuts it looks like.
Try setting the dns server to 8.8.8.8

And of course flush the dns again as well.

Browsing is really slow, it is much faster on my regular OS, is there a reason for that?

(I`m not using 8.8.8.8 now)

Not sure why it would be slower in the vmware.

Have you made sure you have all the windows updates as well in the vmware?

Oh and make sure you have the latest drivers for the vmware and the OS. this will help a lot.
