That is a modem only, it isn't a router.
What do you have plugged into it?

With you computer directly connected to the modem then there isn't a router at all.  That means there aren't any ports to forward because the whole purpose of port forwarding is to allow a specific connection to pass through the router to get to your computer.

The router allows you to have more than one computer use the same internet connection but it also acts as a firewall.  It blocks all traffic from the Internet unless you specifically requested it (or if you set up port forwarding rules).  The way you are right now is that your computer is completely open to everything.  The good (like whatever you need to download) and the bad (the malicious hackers and programs out there).

I suggest you pick up a router as soon as you can and in the meantime you install a software based firewall.  One such as Comodo's (http://www.comodo.com/home/download/download.php?prod=firewall) or Online-Armor (http://www.online-armor.com/downloads.php).

And to answer your original question, no SPF can't help you till you have a router.

Also, you shouldn't need port 25 open because that is a port used by a server to receive mail that you are sending it.  It looks like port 83 is a MIT mail protocol as well.  That would be ports you would need open if you were hosting a mail server.  Are you sure you have the correct numbers?

Also port forwarding is to allow outside connections to start a new connection to your system When your system makes the connection the port forwarding isn't needed. So you shouldn't need any port forwarding. Those ports are mainly to make sure you allow them through your computers firewall is all
