Task Scheduler shows repeated "failure" of Cleanmem
« on: October 12, 2010, 01:54:49 PM »
I use Windows Vista 32, Comodo 4.0.141, 4 gigs of RAM.
Checking Windows Task Scheduler found that in all instances Cleanmem is reported as "Failure". So I defined Cleanmem as "trusted" with no change; removed the checkmark from Comodo Defense Settings (under Objects to Monitor Against Direct Access) "Physical Memory", also no change. What's the fix?

Have you tried completely turning Comodo off? If it runs after that when you we know that Comodo is the problem and we just have to get it set up right.

First thing to check is make sure cleanmem is in the system32 dir.

The task scheduler runs cleanmem from there. The bat files in the cleanmem folder copy cleanmem to the system32 dir.

Also need to make sure the task scheduler rule is running cleanmem as administrator.

Sorry but I need a little more help. This Vista is new to me and I'm having trouble finding the System32 directory. Also, I think I tried it with Comodo off but just in case I'll try it again.

the system32 dir is the same in all the windows :-)

C:\Windows\System32 (For 32 bit systems)
or
C:\Windows\SysWOW64 (ON 64 bit systems this is where cleanmem should be)

CleanMem is in System32 along with the ignore, only, etc.  I always log in as Administrator and am the only user of this laptop.

Previously I confirmed that CleanMem is in the System32 dir (thanks for what should have been obvious to me) I just rebooted (so as not to wait the 30') after shutting off COMODO and it still reports "Failure."  So I'm still looking for a fix.

When it says fail it should have an error code. Do you see one? That error code will let me know what the problem is.

It does not provide an error code, only
"Clean System Memory" (under Task Name) then "Failure" (under Run Results) then Run Start (date & time) and Run End (date & time); the last two, Run Start & Run End, show a start and end date & time that are identical

View the history of it. If history is disabled you can right click in the list on the left and enable task scheduler history.

If I could just find an error code it will tell me what needs fixed :-)

There are 39 CleanMem entries, all reporting "Failure" and no error code.  Also, following the advice given to another, while monitoring the Task Manager I ran CleanMem in Run and it appeared just as you indicated.  However, this time the Task Manager did not report on it, probably because it was not a scheduled task but...

The task scheduler has nothing to do with the task manager. So don't worry about that.

Try deleting the rule in the task scheduler and then reinstall cleanmem. Perhaps the rule is just corrupt.

So reinstalling ti will recreate the rule (Which is why we need to delete it first)

As I cannot delete it from the Task Scheduler screen I'll uninstall CleanMem and all references using CCleaner and reinstall.  Here's hoping...

That is correct, it would not allow me to delete it in the Task Scheduler (as an aside and not sure it relates, I also am not able to "Restore" my system which I tried four times on another problem).  I uninstalled CleanMem and ran CCleaner to remove all possible remaining references though I saw none; rebooted to clean out memory, then reinstalled CleanMem.  No change to result, "Failure" was the result of this start-up run of CleanMem...  (FYI, there are no viruses or trojans, etc. on this laptop as of 8:00 AM today.)
