Memory Question - Still Seeing Alot Of Memory Consumption
« on: September 16, 2010, 06:54:31 PM »
I just started using your program.

While I must admit when you look at the logs you see a reduction and when you look at the Task Manager under the Processes tab you see a reduction, but under the Performance tab for the PF Usage the memory is still high.

Here are some screen shots;

Screen shot one shows the Processes tab;
http://img715.imageshack.us/i/taskmanager1.jpg/

As you can see in the Processes tab there isn't much running in the background or that many processes, 23 in total. When I took that screen there were no applications open.

Now the second screen shot;
http://img815.imageshack.us/f/taskmanager2.jpg/

Now looking at how little is running in the background and their Mem Usage, how then under the Performance tab can the PF Usage still be showing at 331MB of ram? Because I know in XP when you are running it with this little the typical PF Usage is around 125MB-180MB.

For me the problem is I always see over time the PF Usage shooting up and never going back down and then the system and applications slow down, respond badly...

What can be done to bring the PF Usage back down to where it should be judged on the Mem Usage of applications running in the background and the amount of processes?

Because to me when I look at the two tabs and add up the numbers, it doesn't look right, that the PF Usage should still continue to remain high with no Mem Usage or processes going on to keep it up there.

THANKS

one of the programs has a page file leak. cleanmem doesn't touch the pf.

You need to kill one program at a time and watch the pf. when it goes down you will have found the leaking program :-)

This is what's running in the background:

Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5
Realtek HD Audio Sound Effect Manager
Java Quick Starter

So I'd imagine Anti-Malware is leaking then...

Is there anyway for CleanMem to deal with leaks, or anything out there to help with page file leaks?

In the Task Manager the higher the Page Faults the more problems, along with higher VM Size?

THANKS

I searched all over and there is no options to deal with the page file.
Cleanmem only cleans the memory, the page file is a whole other beast.

I would bet it is the anti malware program.

My self I use Avira and malwarebytes

I've used Avira in the past with just Malwarebytes and if you know your business then it's ok, but most don't and Avira and Malwarebytes I've come to realize aren't doing as good as I'd hoped for.

At least to keep your system light I'd just go with another On Demand scanner, I highly recommend getting Hitman Pro;

http://www.surfright.nl/en

This is a multi engine application with 5 of the best AV scanning engines along with Cloud. They just changed them so I'll find out who they are now, I think it's now GData, Prevx, Nod32, Emsisoft and Dr Web.... But I'll check and make sure...

I'm an IT Tech security and system infections is my business, this is one app you want to have. Let me know if you want it, I'm a reseller with SurfRight.

If you're into Security, I highly recommend you join the Wilders Security Forum, where I am a member. This also happens to be the Official forum of many leading security vendors, NOD32 as one such...

THANKS Shane

P.S. PageFile post I made at Wilders; (Maybe you can lend some expertise over there on the subject)

Yeah been in computers for 15 years my self (31 years old now)

I own a computer repair company now for about 8 years. I have so far about 150+ customers.
I based my decision on what AV to put on my customers machines by 3 factors.

1. Free for home users
2. Performance hit on the computer
3. How good it does it job.

So I use to use avast, it fit all 3. but thanks to keeping up with http://www.av-comparatives.org/ I found avira to fit the 3 factors even better.

Malwarebytes does a good job as well. I haven't tried to many others as these seem to do the job. And anything these 2 cant find or clean I am able to hunt down and kill manually :-)

Of course my opinion might be more bias as I have the customer satisfaction with me in mind. What can I do to keep the customers system safe, fast and cheap? Free software that does the job. And a lot of the customers upgrade to the pro if they really like it.

Off topic I know, but dang it, I love talking geek with fellow techs  :artist:

Hey you sound just like me Shane and that's why I install Avira and Malwarebytes on most of clients computers also. I'm an IT Tech...

I use sometimes Avast but many times I've seen to much slow down with the system with it installed.

As far as Hitman is concerned I meant you should use it for your own system(s) and later for people that want to buy something really great you should have them purchase it.

I mis judged the engines in it, this is what it uses: (And it works off of Cloud too)

GData - 2 engines
EMSI - 2 engines - One engine is IKARUS :)
Dr. Web
Prevx

Hitman Pro is really a must have for your business, it's very fast to scan too, only around 5-7mins on most machines. :)

It's free to try for 30 days and if you want to buy it PM me so I don't forget, as a reseller you can get a discount.

P.S. I'm not telling you to get this as a salesman to make a sell, but as a Tech myself, that works in IT Technology as my business doing system cleanups and recovery, this is one tool you must have...

Hey nice to talk some Geek to a fellow tech too. :)

As I mentioned before if you're not on Wilders Security Forum, join it, great security tech, going on there...
