Portforward on a Mobile 3G (HSDPA) Modem (How???)
« on: September 01, 2010, 03:31:14 PM »
Hi All,

#1 I have mobile internet broadband connection using 3 in Italy (3-Tre Italy). I am

using a Huawei E220 USB modem to connect to my ISP. The next point after the modem is

my old-style Compaq Armada laptop running W2K SP4 (modem connected via USB). There is

not FW, only Eset NOD32 (v4.0.314.0) is running. LAN address is static.

Q#1 What should I do to reach the goal (I mean FWD the uTorrent port)?

#2 On my laptops ethernet port there is a modem/router Thomson SpeedTouch ST780WL. I

use this to share my internet all around in my home wirelessly. I have another PC

connected via USB wireless client (TP-Link TL-WN422G) to the Speedtouch. PC is running

XP SP3, Win firewall, Eset Node32 as above. LAN address is static.

Q#2 What should I do for portforwarding on my XP?

#3 On my XP there is VMWare installed (v6.5.2 Build 156735 Final). Inside this there is

W2K SP4 running. No FW, no antivirus. LAN address is dynamic I think (I did not change

it, default as installed).

Q#3 What should I do for portforwarding on my embedded W2K?

Web, mail works fine of course. I have uTorrent/Bittorrent installed on all of the 3

machines. Works fine, but with hard limits (only passive connection mode).

I think this is the right order, and if I am not able to find the solution for the main

question above (#1) there is no chance to step forward...

I am not newbee, have some practice in IP, but need help!!! :D Is there any chance?

Thanx!

With wireless internet you wont be able to port forward.

It is the way they have the network set up.

If you look at that your modems internet IP address is you will see it doesn't match the internet IP on the port tester page on my site.

This is because the way a wireless ISP has the network setup, they have you behind a 2nd network.

Wireless is very limited on how much it can handle, so they make sure people only use it for what they need and cant host anything.

By putting the users behind a 2nd network they keep them from being able to port forward or host anything.

Some ISP's let you buy a static internet IP and that gets you out of that 2nd network. But not all ISP's offer that.

Okay, thanx, I got it. You are right! My IP is 94.165.x.x, but my modem sais: 1.96.x.x. To tell the truth I was afraid of an answer like this  I did not know why does it work like this. "Unmanaged" NAT is the answer.

BTW why is it so necessary to connect me at a specific port? I can download with uTorrent and sometimes I also can  share (seed) the parts I have received already. This case do I use another port (normal tcp) to do the job? Anyway why this not working like TeamViewer: you have a key, I have a key (we already have one: passkey) and the server (torrent tracker) initiate an active (back and forth) connection between you & me? I should ask the developers...

This will explain why you need port forwarding
http://www.pcwintech.com/what-port-forwarding-nutshell

The reason teamviewer works without port forwarding is they have a central server that makes the connections from the workstations to each other, thus removing the need for port forwarding.

Yes I know TeamViewer works like this and this is why I mentioned tracker server sould play the role of the connection maker in a file sharing situation. :undecided:
