Comodo
« on: August 07, 2010, 04:11:28 AM »
I got Comodo and installed it. At the end of the install it did a restart. Did that. When the PC came back up I couldn't get to the other PC anymore. Sooo, I powered off this PC, the other PC, and the router. Turned on the router, waited a bit, turned on the other PC, then turned on this PC. Same problem, internet ok but can't get to the other PC.

Used RevoUninstaller to remove Comodo. Everything fine.

Suggestions?

I take it you installed the firewall. When you did that you must of had it blocking the local network.

If you are behind a router you don't really need a software firewall. After all a router is a hardware based firewall :-)

I wasn't aware of installing a firewall. If I did then it must have never given me an option to not install a firewall.
How do I go about just installing Comodo and then getting rid of a firewall that it stuck in there for free?

lol, yes but what did you install? antivirus, firewall, backup?

Anyways just woke up and getting the family up and heading out for our trip. Heading to my sisters wedding 3,000 miles away, and I am walking her down the isle :-)

When I get off the plane and any chance I get I will check and keep up on the forums.

So I will be a little long responding.

I thought I was just getting the backup - that's all I wanted. I can go back to CNET and make sure that's what I downloaded.

Different quickie question -- I installed a wide screen LCD monitor for my wife -- what should the pixel settings be - it came with no disc and no instructions that I remember. I had it installed on my AMD and it was fine - I never did a thing I guess Windows 7 was smarter tha XP Home.

Mac,

With LCD monitors you should set the display to the resolution that is listed for the monitor.  Old CRT monitors (a.k.a. "boob-tube" displays) are great at letting you choose whatever display size you prefer but with LCD you need to go with what the monitor was designed at.

You can usually press a button on the monitor to bring up a menu that will show the native display size and that is the size you should choose in Windows.  If you can provide a link to the actual product page then I can easily tell you what you should set the computer to.

Let me know if I need to clarify any of this...it's getting late for me and I'm getting tired.

P.S.  Oh yeah, here is the download link from Comodo for Comodo Backup (http://backup.comodo.com/download.html).  I don't use this backup so you gotta ask Shane for help.

Evan - thanks for the link to Comodo - I followed it and started the download - system informed me that I already had it but I downloaded it anyway. I'll try for another install later but this would indicate that I din't get something other than the backup. Anyway, after the install if I encounter the same problem can you tell me how to find a software firewall and get rid of it?

As for the monitor. I fooled around with it and although I knew it wasn't correct (I knew what it looked like on the other system) I turned it over to my wife and she loves it and told me not to fool with it anymore. LOL I reckon it's a done deed -- t'aint right but she don't care - I'm done.

I would think that there would be two separate listings for Comodo Backup and Comodo Firewall.  If you did get the firewall installed you should know pretty quickly as it will notify you constantly that "some program" is trying to communicate with anything other than the machine you are using (that could be another machine in your house or ANYTHING on the internet).  If you can't find any evidence of the firewall but you still can't reach your other computer (and it can't reach you) then try checking with the vendor.

I don't want to mislead you and waste your time with guesses, that's why I recommend asking them (or looking through their support).

As far as the monitor goes...if she says it's good, then it's good.

Let me know what you find out and good luck.
