Google Earth
« on: June 19, 2010, 02:46:56 AM »
Just before the Gateway bit the dust I downloaded and installed Google Earth. My wife never got around to trying it out (it was like the day before the Gateway went down). So now that I have the Dell new to me desktop running I have tried downloading it (Google Earth) again. Can't seem to do it. I have tried 6 different times on 3 different days with no success. Interenet Explorer says that the site is blocked -- always does this no matter what site I go to and I always say download the file. Then IE goes trucking off trying to download (for other sites I would now get the option to run or save the file) -- dll.google.com but finally gives up saying -- "IE can't download GoogleEarthSetup.exe from dll.google.com" -- "IE was unable to open this Internet site." So it would appear that the site has a problem but I bet not on 3 different days. I have downloaded other 'stuff' from other sites ever since I started working on getting this Dell desktop working and I have had no problems -- this is the only one.

Suggestions?

Well this one is kind of a non starter. Right after I made that post I googled the setupexe and found a site that gave me a direct link. Went there and tried it. It worked just fine. It looked like it went right back to the same place where I had been before - uncheck making google homepage - uncheck chrome download -- and away it went. Difference -- this time IE didn't pop up at the top saying it was blocking files from downloading from that site. In the past I have gotten that notice from IE and told it to go ahead and download the file -- (this happens EVERY time I go to CNET for downloads) and always in the past it has proceeded to download the file with no problem. Just that site -- any ideas of why?

Tried Firefox once. My wife nor I liked it very much (we both hate changes). For example, my wife will close out everything and start over if the tabs across the bottom of the screen are not in the 'order' that she wants.     :cheesy:  I'm not quite that anal but close to it.

So I reckon we can close this one out.

ha! Your right along with 95% of my customers. They absolutely hate change. Had one customer who refused to give IE until his system kept getting infected. Once he went to firefox he didn't get hit again lol.

Anyways you may want to reset your IE security and such and see if it helps.
