Does CleanMem help with memory leaks?

I've been reading Shane's explanation of what CleanMem does, but I can't figure out if it is designed to alleviate memory leaks?

I am running WinXP, SP3 with 1GB RAM.
 
I am getting gradual memory degradation over the course of about 2-3 days.
Reboot fixes the problem.

Errors in Event Viewer are usually EventID:2020, "The server was unable to allocate from the system paged pool because the pool was empty"
or Event ID: 2019, "The server was unable to allocate from the system nonpaged pool because the pool was empty".
 
I have been slowly removing various suspect startup programs, because I have been told I have some sort of kernel driver memory leak.  So far none of these removals have stopped the leak.

I am hoping CleanMem will do the trick.  Is that a realistic hope?

And another question... can faulty memory cause these errors and degradation?  I ran memtest 86+ and the tests were all good, but the disclaimer states that a stick could still be bad and the test might not show it.

Cleanmem only cleans the memory each process is using. Other things such as drivers in memory are not touched. So I am not sure how much help cleanmem will be with this.

What antivirus are you running?

This says here norton can cause the error.

Looks like Microsoft memory management auto cleans the memory pool already when it hits 80%. but if the demand is to high it cant keep up, so this shows you how to lower it to have windows keep it clear more often

I am not running Symantec products on this pc.  My AV is Prevx.
The MS kb article you referenced is not for WinXP.

Shane, what is your opinion... can faulty memory cause these errors and degradation?

Personally I have never seen the error, so it is a rare one. Something you shouldn't be getting even with a memory leak of a program.

I haven't heard of Prevx, but most AV's install drivers. First thing to check is to uninstall Prevx and see if the problem is still there. Thats just personally what i would do since AV's get pretty deep into the system, the first thing to do is remove something that deep and see if the problem is still there.

But the answer to your question is no faulty memory shouldn't cause that. I would run another memory tester, MS one is a good one http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp

Burn the iso and boot off the cd. You don't want to run a memory test in windows, because not all memory is available for testing. Run this one just to be 100% sure on the memory. But again bad memory shouldn't be causing this error. The error isn't about a bad section of memory, it is about the running out of the pool resource.

At the same time your welcome to see if cleanmem could help. I don't know if it will, but I don't know it wont make things worse so it cant hurt to try.

I have actually already run the MS tool you suggested.  I ran it from a floppy.  All was good with that test too.

You have made helpful suggestions about uninstalling Prevx, and about trying CleanMem because it can't hurt.
Wouldn't that be cool if it helped?
