SOMAportal is not enabled on this system
« on: June 07, 2010, 10:45:36 PM »
Hi guys,

I do not have a router but a modem, or maybe I should call it a modem with an inbuilt router (SOMANetworks). Following your instructions, after finding my default gateway (router IP) and I go to Internet Explorer (IE) to type in my xxx.xxx.x.x, I get this message on the screen: "SOMAportal is not enabled on this system." And if I'm to use your login screen from your software, how do I know what username and password to use to get into the system? Does this mean I can not do port forwarding or I am not allowed to do port forwarding? Does this also mean that even if I decide to purchase a real router (firmware) I will not be able to do port forwarding or port forwarding will not work for me no matter the workaround if any? Does this mean there is no solution to this? Please I need your candid contribution because I really like the speed of my internet connection from my ISP but the con is that I cannot use/enjoy my VOIP and even torrents the way I ought to be doing, thus making it almost useless.

This is a serious issue which I do not know how to solve and would highly appreciate your advice, help, and/or assistance. Almost all ports are not reachable. This is affecting me because I cannot use my VOIP service without having audio or video, or some other silly issues/problems.

Please someone help me.

Thanks in anticipation of any swift response.

Kind regards,

Justin

Looks like you need to give your ISP a call.
When you try to log into the modem it is saying the web interface is disabled. Which means you wont be able to change any of the settings.

But the first question is your modem also a router? What is the local IP your computer gets from it? Does it begin with 192.168?

Yes my modem is like a router,  it has an inbuilt router. And on the modem there are other ports for you to be able to connect fax machine and phone. The local IP my computer get's from it is 192.168.1.1 (as you can see from my attached screen shots in my previous post).

No other way? What if I call them and they refuse to allow me in or ask me to pay more money? Can they do or say that? Please advise on the next exact steps to take.

Thank you.

Ok so we know your modem is also a router, so we need to fig. out why you cant log in to change anything.
I can Google and look at some info for it. Also it wont hurt to call them and ask.

Is your ISP DSL, Cable or wireless?

Just did some quick Google searches and found very little on this brand. I found their home page but no helpful info there.

On their site they give no document downloads, they want you to fill out information just to get those
http://www.somanetworks.com/documents.html

Looks like this brand is more of a sell to the ISP not the consumer, so I don't think much info will be found. Calling your ISP to find out whats going on seems to be the best thing to do, at least this way your not chasing your tail looking for info

Let me know what they say, I am curious.

Holy crap, they want a passport to open a port!!!

With all due respect, you need to find a new ISP.

I think this is what I have to do. Only painful thing is that the device which they sold me was (and still is) over $300 excluding subscription. This sucks.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Justin.
