Shane,

Very small chance of you remembering me but last September you helped me with some port forwarding problems I had connecting to my Blood bowl game.  Anyway, everything's been fine until I reinstalled windows a few weeks ago.  My PC is still connected to the same NETGEAR DG834G (v4) router so I figured I shouldn't have to change anything after reinstalling windows.  However, since then I find it hard to connect to multiplayer games and in the last few days, even harder to actually log into the game.

I have just tried your simple port forwarding program again and it fails the test (number 7) for some reason.  As you're the most helpful techy in the world (or at least the best I've ever met) I was wondering if you'd help me out.  I'm happy for you to do that thing where you take control of my PC (can't remember the name of the program) as you managed to sort it like that last time in 2 mins.

Here's hoping  :cheesy:

p.s.

I've checked the common problems and fixes page and, although I'm a total noob, everything seems okay

Well lets try to get you fixed first, I say teamviewer as a last resort :-)

Can you post 2 pics for me.
Take a screen shot of the main window of my simple port forwarding program
This will let me see your local ip and the rule.
Then a screen shot of the port forwarding page in the router.
This will let me see if the rule is setup right :-)

Wrong page for the router, go to the firewall rules page and send that to me :-)

OK the game needs 2 rules yet I only see one in the firewall rules.
SO remove that rule then have the program added them back in. When it is done you should see the 2 rules on the firewall rules page :-)

Okay, I deleted then tried to add again but I got about 4 message windows popping up during the process and at the end the router still only shows the same one rule.  Now when I test the 9103 port works so I guess it's the 16962 rule that's got the problem.

You want me to send you the screenies of the error messages I get?

I thought it'd be quicker to type them then I can send you the whole screen of which ever ones you need.

1st  - "Service Port number was defined by another service"
2nd - "Service Port number was defined by another service"
3rd - "This rule already exists!"
4th - "Invalid LAN IP address, please enter again"

The last one looks a bit fishy, let me know what you need next.

Go to the services page and remove any blood bowl ones. Its saying another service already has that port in it.

Two big green ticks now :cheesy: cheers Shane for the rapid, patient and friendly help.

I'm going to check the game now and see how it logs on etc.

Hmm, it's still being an arse but I got in on my 3rd try which is a lot better than it has been.  But I could just be lucky atm.  Anyway, the port forwarding is clearly set up okay now.  I've even disabled my spyware and anti virus but that doesn't seem to help.  Weird  :undecided: and even though I recently reinstalled windows XP, it connected to the game fine after wards for at least a week before I suddenly started getting this problem.  I can't think what else might have changed to trigger this??
