belkin F5D8236-4, ports never open and nat always strict
« on: April 13, 2010, 11:31:38 AM »
ive been trying forever to get my NAT open for my xbox. upnp is enabled i read all the common fixes and problems and steps and even used the port forwarding program and my ports are always not open or as the port checker says not working and cannot be reached. im running Vista on a 2 yr old dell with 5g embarq dsl. the routers roughly a year and a half old. ive tried port forwarding using this program and even went to the the other site portforward.com and tried port fwd with the xbox and computer and gave the xbox and computer both static ips so im lost..............

No problem, lets get you fixed.

First thing, the port tester will fail! that is because the port tester opens and listens for the port on YOUR computer and not on the xbox. So the port tester is no good here.

But we can setup a test port forwarding rule to your computer, use the port tester. This will at least let us test if port forwarding is working in the router.

Some quick things to check also. First make sure you have the right IP for the xbox in the port forwarding rules.
Next make sure the DMZ isn't enabled

And last try turning off the firewall in the router as well

Lets go from here :-)

So port forwarding isn't working to your xbox and your computer.

Lets check something else, find the WAN/Internet IP in the router, does it match the IP on the port tester page?

OK whats the WAN IP and the WAN gateway, don't worry about posting them, they are local IP's and can get to them from the net. I need those so I can walk you through how to fix this :-)

Ok here is what you do.

Log into http://192.168.2.1
In there find the DMZ page.
On the DMZ page put in 192.168.2.2 enable it and save it.

Now go try the port tester on your computer again :-)
Make sure to the only the port pointing to your computer of course.

You have 2 options. Put the Zyxel into bridge mode, which I dont tell users to do unless they know what they are doing.
The safer way is to make 2 big port forwarding rules.
Make a port forwarding rule for ports 1000 - 65535 TCP and have it point to 192.168.2.2, then make another rule the same ports for UDP.
