Error: 429
« on: April 04, 2010, 04:39:37 PM »
Hi, I have a problem with Error 429, I read a locked thread about the same problem (http://forums.pcwintech.com/index.php/topic,1098.msg4691.html#msg4691) tried some of the tools suggested but I still cant get SPF to work.
Could please help with the issue at hand since I really love this program (I have been using it for some time at my small business).

Thanks

The program uses ADO (By Microsoft) to read the router database.
The problem is on your system ADO is messed up for some reason.

I take it you tried the MDAC repair tool on my toolbox page?

I was wondering why the other forum thread was locked, forgot I have it set to auto lock after 30 days of no replies lol.

Anyways on this one
http://forums.pcwintech.com/index.php/topic,1098.msg4690.html#msg4690

I was telling him about the size differences. Can you check yours as well?

Should be easy for us to find the right files to download and replace off the net. :-)

As a matter of fact I went through every step mentioned in the locked thread before opening this one and all the file sizes of the ADO matched the ones you had (according to the other thread). I D/L the M$ tool to repair the ADOs (even though the tool is not designed for Win7) and Im still getting the error

What a pain this can be some times.
I have an idea though. I use to have the program use DAO, some people had that corrupt. I moved to ADO. Same thing. The funny thing is I haven't had anyone who had both messed up at the same time.

So the question is, how do I keep this from happening? I have an idea  :artist:

I can make a new version of Simple Port Forwarding that can use both ADO and DAO. As the program tries to connect to the database with ADO and it detects an error then it will DAO instead. If it still gets a 2nd error then it will tell the user. But this way the program will try both first, thus saving my users and me a lot of unneeded headache.

What are your thoughts?

Sounds just about right.
Eventhough I have VERY basic networking knowledge and dont have a clue on what the ADO and DAO files do it is clear that if you can make it work with either of them then why not go for it? its like taking and alternate route to the supermarket, they will be different but in the end they will get you where you want to go

I am actually working on it now, lots of work to do to have it do both. I should have something in a few hours. Want to test it for me when I am done? since ADO is broke on your system you would be a great test for it.

Ok all done. Just need it tested by you before I release it.

Download the zip file. Extract the new spf.exe, then replace the old spf.exe with this one. Give it a try and see if the database will load for you now.

Let me know as soon as you can so I can release it if it works.
