Unable to port forward udp, TCP works fine
« on: March 20, 2010, 02:59:50 PM »
I have a Westell A90 9100EM15 router, and currently have set my computer in dmz with it, and use the firewall on my killer network card.   Using the checker at portforward.com, my TCP ports are properly opened, but none of my udp ports are.  I've turning off the killer firewall as well, and have tried plugging it into the network card intergrated onto the motherboard,  but they were stilll blocked.

Does my port tester also show that the UDP ports are blocked?
Yet any tcp port you test passes?

It did, but I did a system restore, which wound up fixing the issue, sorry for posting a bit prematurely.
I think I just figured out what the issue was, I had been connecting to a brother 2170w with a AD-HOC wifi connection, and I'm hardwired with a router, and this apparently blocks the udp ports. Any way I can open the Udp ports and connect to both networks?

Not sure why that would block the UDP ports.
Perhaps its just a simple setting to change in windows.

Go to network connections in the control panel.
Go to advanced in the menu then advanced under there.

Here you will be able to put the order in which windows uses the networks. Make sure your hardwire is set to the top :-)

I couldn't find the option you were talking about, I'm using windows 7 if it helps.  Its no big deal, I'll just switch the downstairs printer with this one.

I am on windows 7 also. It is the same in all versions of windows from xp on. Here are some screen shots :-)

You can always see if it works for you. At least you know what the problem is and how to get around it.
