Can t port forward a modem Huawei BM621
« on: December 28, 2009, 06:26:33 AM »
Hi, im new here, im helping a friend who wants to port forward his modem, but he is from Philippines and he is not so good with english. He got access to internet only by his modem, he can access to his modem with the default user and password, but when he enter in the modem, he can t find anything about advanced settings (where is supposely the options for port forward). We found some information of his modem that indicate it have support Routing Mode and Bridging Mode. I never work with modems before, but i have open ports for routers before. I had a similar problem before with a router, the advanced settings were missed, so i used the Simple Port Forwarding program and i could open the ports easily. But this program don t have the modem of my friend in its database, so is useless in this case. Can anybody help us to find a way to port forward the modem Huawei echolife BM621?

PD: We  already check the www.portforward.com site there is not the modem model, there is a similarity with the huawei BM625 but the advanced settings are missing.

I will be more than happy to help :-)

First thing I need is the screens so I can see whats going on.
Download my http://www.pcwintech.com/router-screen-capture

Use it to view every page you can in the modem, I need them all. Then I can see whats going on, and if possible added the router to my program as well. The screen shot page and guides will come later :-)

Thanks :-)
I got the screen shots, the bad news is there isn't any port forwarding pages. I checked each screen shot and it looks like the modem gives no options for port forwarding.

I tried finding some info on it through Google and there is hardly anything out there on this model. Must be pretty new.

The thing to do is to call the ISP and ask them what options they have for port forwarding.

Let me know what they say if you don't mind.

ok, i m gonna ask him to talk with the ISP provider to see what they say about open ports in this modem.
BTW i found this in a google search, these are some specifications of the modem BM621, maybe you can see something here that we couldn t, or any clue to know if in this modem you can open ports or not.

http://forwimax.ru/admin/pictures/on_test/Huawei_EchoLife_BM621_www.forwimax.ru.doc

This is a word document with the specifications of the modem.
About the lack of options to open ports in this modem, well im not totally sure about that, i don t have so much experience in this but i read in another forum that sometimes for routers when they are in bridging mode all the options are not avaiable, when are changed to router mode the new options appear in the screen of the router, i m not totally sure of this or if this could happen in a modem.

Thx for your help again!

The doc file says
"Support Routing Mode and Bridging Mode"

Looking at the screens he sent me the mode is set to Route
Yet there is no port forwarding options.

On thing I did notice is on every page there is not a single button or option to allow anything to be changed. Perhaps there is another admin login that is needed to access more pages? So far every page seems to be nothing more than status pages.

hi i am also from the philippines

i am using a huawei echolife bm622 (probablily alike with bm621)

i think you should log in as an admin to open the advance settings for your router
try
username: admin
passwrod: 2008x2CzFWqMDDFG

or look for the password yourself in
http://192.168.1.1/html/management/account.asp
right click and view the source code. look for the username and password.

i have already configured my port mapping but still cant open ports

http://forums.pcwintech.com/index.php/topic,1088.0.htm

hope it helps.

thx a lot guys!! we could find the admin password, Jester was right, but we had to first login as user in the modem then open another tab and use the link he gave us in there (using directly the link redirect us to : "http://192.168.1.1/html/content.asp" and the password wasnt in that code), then copy the code of that page and in the code was the correct user and password, so we can login as admin.

My friend tried to call his ISP for the correct user/password but they said that he cant open ports in that modem. We just found the user/password and in Philippines is real late right now so tomorrow we gonna try open the ports. If we had another problem i gonna post it here but i think all gonna be easy since now.

Thx again, wish us luck!!  :cheesy:

EDITED :

We have some problems with this :

http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/3050/12023421.png

the source IP address im not sure what we have to put in there, we try it with the local IP, blank, default gateway but nothing works, he diable his antivirus and firewall. We used the portchecker program too, but it say it s close.

Some help please!!

Source IP should be blank :-)
That is basically if you want to only allow one IP from the outside in, in this case you don't. SO you dont put any thing in for it. This tells the routers to allow all IPs through the port.

Internal host should be the IP of the computer you want the port to forward to, not the 192.168.1.1.
Everything else looks good :-)

By the way I could still use those screen shots
Then I can get the guides, screen shot pages done and get it added to the program.

Ok, We did the changes, but still can t open the ports, my friend check if his public IP match with the Status -> Service Information -> WAN interface  IP address but, they didn t match, i guess he is behind a proxy too lke Jester, so is there another thing we can try to open the ports?, he already call the ISP, and they told him that he can t open ports cuz it is a wireless connection and it doesn't have IP address, they told him that he only has the modem IP but his connection doesn't have IP (weird  :undecided:).

Any idea if there is another way to open the ports?

PD: Im gonna tell him about the screenshots of the modem, but right now he went to sleep, so i guess in 8 more hours, he gonna upload the screenshots.

The tech he talked to at his ISP doesn't know what they are talking about lol.
Have him call and ask how much is it for a static internet IP.

So Is there any other thing that he can try other than change his internet to wired connection?  :undecided:

That doesn't make a whole lot of sense from the ISP. They can do static IP's to their wired customers but not to their wireless? Yet the router for the wireless internet has port forwarding pages?

There are wireless ISP's out here where I live that have people behind a 2nd network, pay for a static IP and you got your port forwarding. In fact almost every wireless ISP I have heard of that wasn't from a cell phone provider was that way.

I really don't think tech support has a clue lol.

Not much you can do till you speak with someone with more info. I know your ISP could do it, the question is are they able to? Perhaps they just have bad techs, or just bad rules and don't allow it.

The options are limited right now for you.
