Some Ports work .. some Ports dont :(
« on: December 24, 2009, 06:01:01 AM »
Hey everyone

I've used the software from this site and I put in the 5 sets of ports that I need to work.

I did everything exactly the same for all 5 ports.
When I checked the ports on the portchecker, the first two (Ports 80 and 2300-2400) worked perfectly fine. The next 3 (Ports 23456, 6073 and 81) weren't open. I followed the page on what to do if it doesn't work and still, nothing happens. I currently have my Windows Firewall on, Router Firewall off.
I really need to get this programme working, so thanks in advance for your help, and sorry if this has been posted before.

Thanks

I added some more Ports as I needed them to work for another programme, again with similar results.

Thanks Shane

How odd some are working and others are not.
I need 1 more screen shot, in my program click the view/remove ports button, when the page is loaded take a screen shot. I want to take a look at the rules to see if they are right.

If the rules are right and everything is setup right then I want to find out what antivirus/firewall you have installed.

Also do you have a 2nd computer? The reason why I ask is we can test to see if the program is the router. By testing if the problem happens on a 2nd computer then this could lead to it being the router. But lets not get to far ahead, lets just go from here

Okay attached is the screenshot.

I don't have a specifically downloaded Anti-virus or Firewall. The only firewall I have is Windows Firewall. I do have McAffee Family Protection, but so far as I know there isn't an anti-virus or a firewall built into it. I know I have a router firewall, as well.

I do, and we can use it if worst comes to worst.

Thanks

Ok lets do a quick test.
I have seen a lot of strange problems with these speedtouch routers. There is always a test I do that can see whats going on.

In other posts some users couldn't get UDP to work and other strange port forwarding problems with the speedtouches. But there is a trick (not sure why it works)

get rid of the port forwarding rules you have right now. Then make a port forwarding rule for ports 1000 - 65535 do it for both TCP & UDP.

After that test the ports you need and see if they work. If they do then the problem is the router, if they don't then we need to look closer to your system.

I attempted to add 1000-65535, and on the first attempt to update the router it told be that the base port was too high or something, so I changed it to 1000-65534, and that seemed to work then.
I tried making the exceptions on the Firewall and it said (instantly) '' -2002 ports were added by SPF ''. After viewing, no exceptions had been added.

I then went ahead to test them anyway, and as expected they failed.

Dont need to worry trying to add that many ports to the firewall lol.
Are  you sure you have no anitvirus installed?

Do me a fav, email me, we will get on msn or yahoo and get this fixed a lot faster. I am very curious on whats going on with some ports working and the others not.

Then once fixed I will post a follow up for other readers :-)

Follow up

All fixed  :artist:

The problem was that the speedtouch does the port forwarding by computer name. But in the device list in the speedtouch it has his computer name in there 3 times and each pointing to a different IP. So the port forwarding rules where going to different IP's, and why some worked and some didn't.

The fix was easy, remove the extra computer name entry's so there was only the one. Now it works fine

Locking Thread.
